I recieved an email this morning from a hacker. It looks like a legit ebay email but I have gotten very good at detecting malicious emails. This one was different though. Next to the ebay question area it stated this: MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "0x5018c2cd" claiming to be 150126479421) with a link to go if you wanted to have mailscanner check this email as a fraud. I thought this was very ingenious, scary as it is to think about, of this person to try and hack our systems. What a great approach. Make them think they are cleaning their systems when in fact they opening them wide up for you to hack at your will. I just wanted to bring this to eveyone's attention that this type of email is a scam and if responded to you will have someone else in control of your auctions not to mention someone freeling checking out your bank accounts, emails, etc.

This certainly is a good one. makes me wonder if the day will come when a scam will fool even the sharpest eBayers.
I thought I was good at detecting scams & got caught on one so short & simple that it fooled me completely. This was months ago & just yesterday I got the same question so it's back again.
It said simply: "Do you ship to New Jersey?"
I signed in & answered.
Found out hours later on VD that it was a scam. Was advised by a poster to always go to "My eBay" to answer questions. Great advice.

I do not answer ANYTHING from ebay outside of My Ebay. We got burned so bad one time when a new employee here answered one. All of a sudden we had 3 wheelers and cars listed on our page. We had to change all of our systems and close down our server for three days. You talk about a disaster. When you run a business that relies so heavily on the internet one hit like that can put you back 3 or 4 thousand dollars. I always try, particularly if I spot a new and inventive one, to warn other ebayers about new scams out there! Fortunately for me, not that I am proud or anything, but I have a couple of close friends that happen to be hackers (not the bad steal your account and your identity kind - they just kind of challenge each other to see how far into major systems they can get and then back back out before anyone knows they are there) so they warn me if they hear anything new that may effect me! Hackers brains always fascinate me, to be honest, they are absolutely brilliant! Well anyways I haven't fallen for too many tricks and try to be vigillant about it. The hackers keep getting more inventive so we are going to have to stay on our toes and try to beat them at their own game. Unfortunately, for everyone that isn't fooled there will still be those that are. If they weren't getting anywhere they would give up. Well enough chatting for me it is back to the grindstone.

McJane says wise to always go to My eBay Messages, but don't forget a couple months ago, a hacker managed to send me a message THRU the 'My Messages' that contained a clickable link in it! ... you honestly cannot even trust messages in 'my messages'.

I think what we should all do is stop answering questions...think of the headaches it would solve. We wouldn't have to waste half our time answering stupid questions like "how much is shipping?" because we all know that ebay customers have to have the highest illiteracy rate in the world. No one reads. They just ask stupid questions before they even read the whole auction. Anyways we stop answering, they stop asking, no more hackers...problem solved
