Google checkout is great BUT...Ebay won't allow it! They can't stand competition. Ebay sucks with all of their payment rules, it is none of their business IMO

Poorly. Which is why you don't see people raving about it here.
You are not allowed to mention Google Checkout in your auction, anywhere on eBay or in communications through eBay's messaging system. You can, of course, send a GC link to your customer by regular email. eBay can't stop you from doing that.
However, not every customer will go the GC route. Some, on entering Google Checkout, will discover that they have to set up a GC account and will back out right then. (That would be me, for example.) The problem here is that they may never complete the sale at all. Some people refuse to click on links in email. (Smart move, that.) And some just prefer PayPal because they have cash there or they are familiar with how it works.

Well,I went to the site and I just dont see how it works for the Ebay seller?
Google wants a seller to register and then install google checkout on his /her website.
There is no website for Ebay item,unless the seller has a website and then list the Ebay item on his website with the final bid amount and ask the bidder to complete the google checkout.
I must be missing something here, how does the seller receive the $$??
The reason I become interested is that it would work great with overseas bidders,Paypal charges 3.99 % and Google charges none.

Hwahwa- it doesn't work for the eBay seller. Ebay banned it. To make it work, you would have to bring it in through the back door, a private email to the buyer forcing them to go off eBay to pay for the item. Buyers won't put up with it. Fluffy's right - the first obstacle is that the huge majority of buyers aren't registered with Google checkout. Edited to add: I have never run across an eBay seller offering Google checkout - if I did, I would surmise their primary objective is not to make money.

Google will be charging a fee starting 2008,but we dont know how much ??
Right now Paypal charges 3.99 percent on intl transaction.

I recently bought some merchandise from a website which uses Google checkout ,I used my Paypal debit card as a credit card to make payment-
seller pays no fee to Google
I get a 1 1/2% rebate from Paypal
and Paypal makes 1 % from the transaction.

Ebay does not have to ban it,without Ebay installing a Google checkout like it does with Paypal on the item page,there is no way for the bidder to use Google checkout unless like you said -do it thru the backdoor in an email with a clickable link .
But a clickable link to where?to a replicate Ebay page with the final bid amount and replace the paypal checkout with Google checkout?It is too much work and the bidder may think it is a scam??

buy.com is offering a discount on purchases paid thru google check-out. I just saw the commercial. Ebay just won't allow it because they don't make any money that way. I personally do not see any difference between it and having a different merchant account. Does anyone know?

I know about using Google checkout as a buyer,but not as a seller.
Since Agitprop always come to this board and sing praises of how Google works for her,I start looking into how it would work for me as an Ebay seller .
I just dont see how it would for my Ebay auctions,not like Paypal where a bidder can just enter my email address and I will get a notice from Paypal saying you got cash!
I was hoping to ask my overseas bidders to pay me thru Google.

Google is not the same as having a merchant account,there is no monthly fee,annual fee,and minimum discount fee.
But you must have your own website to have GOOGLE CHECKOUT installed on your site.
I know Aspire auction,Sierra trading and someone just said Buy.com all have Google check out software installed on their sites.

I have google checkout on ecrater. So far, I am very happy with it (as a seller). I have not used it yet as a buyer.

Works GREAT. You just can't advertise on eBay that you offer it. You can offer it when you send your Winning Bidder Notice however. I have had many people pay this way. It is way safer than PayPal and much easier to use.
Go for it. Glad I did.

Google sends the money directly to your savings or checking account. No "BS" holding period like PayPal.
Google is not the same as having a merchant account
Acutally it is. Your just using Google as your merchant.

so in your email to your Ebay bidder,you sent them to Google checkout,what do they see when they get there?
your Ebay item they just won?

Actually you have it a little off. Both Google and PayPal are merchant accounts, only difference is Google actually processes the transaction at the time of the transaction and PayPal will process them as much as a week after the fact.
In my Winning Bidder Notice, I offer Google as an option and then direct them to e-mail me if they would like to use it. Then I send the Google invoice.
However, on all of my other auction sites, I send the WBN directly from Google.
