Has anyone signed up for a WebStore by Amazon? If so, how does it compare with an eBay store?

I understand that Amazon is limiting the number of stores by category.

webstore???...I have a store front with over 3,000 items. Fees are about the same, with the biggest exception with Amazon; NO PAYPAL FEES (buyers' payment are completed FIRST - no waiting)....and also NO LISTING FEES...just the final selling fees. Last but not least...AMAZON actually OVERCHARGES for shipping, I have had 4 oz items being shipped/listed as 6 POUNDS...

AMZN webstore?is this something new?
I know there is the pro merchant account business where you can have a store and no one ever goes there!
I have books which weigh 5 pounds and AMZN is giving 13 dollars for shipping overseas,no way anyone is going to sell to overseas buyers.

I haven't but I was thinking about it.

I was browsing through sterling silver jewelry on Amazon the other day and noticed that much of the photography was horrible, the prices way overreaching and some of the claims dubious.

Clearly there's a market opportunity there.

Bill, I found nothing when searching Amazon Help for WebStore. Do they call it that, or was that your word for it and is it just the Pro Merchant Subscription plan?

Thanks Bill, you da man.

I get it now. It's just another way to build a web store. You still have the hassles and headaches of driving traffic to your site. In that respect it seems pretty similar to an eBay Store.

You should still consider a presence on Amazon. That way you would gain exposure to buyers who never even consider ebay as a viable shopping destination.

The UPS truck stops at my home virtually every day, with purchases my wife makes at Amazon. She would not even consider making an ebay purchase. I bet there are many who feel the same way.

You could well be right.

If only I weren't tied up right now with a new business venture -- that blessedly has nothing to do with eBay or selling and shipping product!

Jay Senese says there are no eBay millionaires. I have yet to see anyone pull up to the Post Office in her Ferrari and start offloading packages...

My dream was and is to live at Big Sur in one of those places hanging by a thread overlooking the ocean. I can visualize the place, ocean spread before my eyes, feel the morning mist, hear my wife calling me up to the house for lunch. Oh me. I must start listing items.

Looks nice, this is not the promerchant ZSHOP for 39.99.
The problem with ZSHOP is that the format is the same as books, you can have only one photo and the size is limited, not a good way to sell items where multiple photos are needed.
If there is no competition on AMZN,there could be plenty on Yahoo shopping, check it out.

After 20,000 plus feedbacks and 8 1/2 years of work....today was the day we pulled the plug on our ebay store............3700 plus items laying in there ---ZAPPED !.....sure you may sell 1 or 2 pieces here and there , but certainly not worth the Ebay fees when the ol' credit card rolls in.........concentrating now on Amazon and business is SMOKIN'!........no more sales waiting on the money to arrive which sometimes never does....no more stupid paypal fees ......it's been said over and over but Ebay has virtually priced themselves out of reason unless you have a really unique item, car , boat , rare musical instrument or whatever........I've seen all their changes over the years supposedly for the better and things have gotten more foolish as time drug on.......

jay, were you listing your items through Vendio? If so, are you still doing so? Are you selling through auctions? zshops? WebStore? Still listing eBay auctions?

Some items are just more suitable on Fleabay or its lesser competitors like Epier,Bidsville or Ioffer, items which you find in attic, garage sale, garbage cans etc.
Collectibles and antiques would not do well on AMZN or Yahoo shopping.
It all depends on what you have and how much competition is out there.
AMZN marketplace may be free but the listings expire in 60 days and it is a pain to renew them manually one by one if you have many.

We will definitley be selective on what we list on Ebay going forward.........we sell on the marketplace site on Amazon....for an added fee your stuff stays on indefinitley......we sell basically all media stuff..........you're right I doubt if other product would work on the Amazon site....but for us it's a winning place to be.

Is this WebStore just a stand-alone website or is it integrated into Amazon? They are vague on the details.

I looked at one of the "Featured WebStore by Amazon merchants" sites and then searched for their product on the Amazon site and they are there with "In Stock Ships from and sold by [sellers name]" above the add to cart button.

So is that 2 separate listings for the same item, or same listing integrated into the Amazon site?

I'm not sure. I received an email last night with a contact phone number. I'll advise later.

I did some google searching on this. I found another Amazon link that gives pricing:

http://www.amazonservices.com/webstore/

"Multiple stores for only $59.99 per month + 7% fee on items that sell, this covers all processing and transaction costs."

"WebStore by Amazon is a comprehensive eCommerce solution that allows you to leverage the power of Amazon’s technology to grow your business. With WebStore by Amazon, you get your own branded web site with the benefits of Amazon’s technology, support, selection and expertise."

Apparently this has been around for a couple of years. The checkout is thru Amazon that you pay the 7% for. You can make as many stores as you want for the $59.99 per month.

What it said is that you drive your own traffic.
No different than the Ebay store or Yahoo store.
7% is steep if it does not bring you traffic.

Yea, it does seem kinda steep but maybe being associated with Amazon gives your site more credibility? Plus, if you wanted to run multiple sites, that $60 a month would be cheap for an unlimited number of sites.

This is true,59.99 all you can eat -as many stores as you like.
I often wonder if it is better to split the store or just map them out nicely in one store, hoping a customer who buys one item will come back and buy something different.
So far I have not seen that pattern.
As for more credibility by being associated with AMZN,is that why AMZN thinks it is worth 7%??
What do you sell?

I sell old collectibles, no new items.

I have to go look at some more of the stores that are mentioned on the Amazon link to see how they mention Amazon on the sites. I would think they have to say Amazon somewhere in their store, since the checkout is thru Amazon.

Amazon seems to have so many different programs for sellers that you can't find any info on. I guess some of their programs are by invitation only. Like the featured sellers you see all the time on Amazon, where the ordering box says "sold and shipped by {seller name}.

Amazon lets you create your own listing for just about anything, but you have to do them by hand one at a time. I'm looking for a way to upload my own created listings in bulk. I'm sure the featured sellers are able to do this. But when I email Amazon, they say its not possible to do.

I wonder if split stores with links to each other would work?

Most people come to AMZN to look for books and clothes,DVD,appliances,AKA new stuff.
Have you looked into Rubylane?
People go to Rubylane to cherry pick whatever they can resell on Ebay.

BILL......I have 3094 items currently on Amazon...NOT all books. I sell several hundred HOT WHEELS and MATCHBOX diecast along with many other toys. 3,000 items "sitting" in my eBay store would cost me each month in fees, with Amazon..NO FEES 'til you sell it. My shop is at their website:

www.amazon.com/shops/rhpepsi1

hopefully that link works for you. As for now...I do not sort or categorize items (YET) on amazon. They do offer that option, along with ADDING to their catalog.
