I have sold for 8 yrs always took them However this month had two chargebacks and they won . MY FIRST EVER CHARGEBACKS! USPS scanned both packages delivered, yet they won --both were sent to unconfirmed addresses.

Does it really hurt sales to to stop taking Paypal with unconfirmed addresses?
I would rather pitch my stuff than give it away to scum -- that get it and their money back.

If the sale is over $50 and the address is unconfirmed, I send a polite note asking that they confirm the address and saying I cannot mail the package until they do so. If it's a small amount, I just send the item anyway.

I've never had one go astray or had a chargeback, though; perhaps that would make me think twice.

It is up to you ,you can always refund his payment and ask him to either confirm his addr or send you a money order.
3 strikes and he is out,so most will send you a payment or confirm his addr.

I've never had a problem with unconfirmed, so I take them...but if I got two back to back chargebacks, I would also have to reconsider.

Don't let those scumbags get away with it. Google their names and phone numbers, contact their local police departments, and let them have at it. File fraud paperwork with your Post Office and Postal Inspector. You'd be amazed at the results. Paypal may not have any spine, but law enforcement does.

I have sent items to at least 200 Unconfirmed Addressses with no problems. When I took checks I had some bounce at 28-30 days after deposit.

I dont take personal check, they can always go to a supermarket to get me a money order.
Company which issues money order can go under ,so money order can bounce.

Since we sell items ranging in price (sometimes stuff sells at our $9.95 opening bid, but it's not unusual to have auctions end in the $thousands), we simply don't accept payments with unconfirmed addresses. It is simple to set up PayPal to refuse them, so you don't have to refund, explain, etc.

For a while we considered unconfirmed addresses for low-priced items, but there is no way to set PayPal that way.

I have not noticed that we've lost any business this way. It sure beats a chargeback.

I ship to unconfirmed but I do take a few precautions. I have PayPal configured to flag me. I have to manuall accept or deny the payment. Before I accept, I check the buyer's feedback. If it looks suspicious I will email them and require a home or business phone so I can confirm their location. I have not had a problem yet.

I will also goggle the ship to address or phone number and if everything checks out, that way I'll know where to send the cops if they were to try and rip me off.

Great suggestions, LtRay! I've never seen the option you mention, if flagging a payment for an unconfirmed address. I'll fiddle with this later on. I also like the idea of googling the address to see if it's real!

It hasn't hurt me.

It has resulted in a few pouty "I don't WANNA give PayPal a credit card number. Waa, waa!" emails.

Tough.

From Paypal website-

What is Alternative Address Confirmation? Question : Answer : Alternative Address Confirmation is a way for U.S. PayPal members to confirm their address without adding a credit card to your PayPal account. To qualify , you must :
Be a Verified PayPal member
Have been a PayPal member for more than 90 days
Have a Community Participation buyer number of more than 10
Be a U.S. member in good standing
If you qualify for Alternate Address Confirmation, you will need to fax several documents to PayPal:
A valid photo ID (preferably with the correct address printed on the ID)
A proof of address (recent utility bill), phone bill, paycheck stub, or business card that shows the address that is being used in the alternate confirmation process
Send by mail to: Attn: Alternate Address Confirmation, P.O. Box 45950, Omaha, NE 68145-0950

Or, fax to 1-402-537-5734, Attn: Alternate Address Confirmation

After your documents are received, we will mail a secret code to the address you are trying to confirm. After you enter the secret code correctly into the PayPal website, your address will be Confirmed.

You can confirm your address more quickly by adding a credit card to your PayPal account.

For more information, please see our Legal Agreements.

Hi Roadie, you can find the confirm/unconfirmed query under Profile->Payment Receiving Preferences in PayPal.

Sorry to not respond soon. It has been a busy weekend on ebay. Thank Goodness!

Of course; well I never check and always suggest that customers send me all the money instead of giving paypal a chunk for doing almost nothing. That worked well before pp works ok now, stand up for your right to be unconfirmed and proud of it!

I had always had the "ask me" about unconfirmed addresses but it did little good since I always accepted even after I refused.
For moi it is best to just say no or %$^&%* NO !!!
Cuz every time I refused the monies. The buyer had a song and dance, dire straits that could only be alleviated if I sent it to the unconfirmed address.
Not wanting the total breakdown of the buyers
health and happiness, I would tell them to resend it and I would accept .

However after 2 chargebacks this month (adding up to over $100) PLUS loss of the items !!!!

I have put on my "big girl panties" and block all unconfirmed addresses- NO exceptions!

I hope I do not backslide into my whuzzy demeanor.

I am going to be more Fluffyized --- hehehe

I'll ship to any unverified address even those in Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia or Iran... however since I don't accept PayPal it isn't risky with my acceptible payment methods which are all non-reversible.

It's a pity that the USA banking system didn't follow the rest of the world back in the late 1980s and introduce bank-to-bank transfers as a standard payment method.
