My ponderance for today Hopefully this read will make you smile.

I am getting ready for my annual G. Sale. I closed down my ebay store months ago, haven't tried to sell anything on ebutt for almost as long. I just started going through boxes to price for the sale. I am so disapointed. I know I will be just giving this stuff away instead of getting what these items are really worth. (Don't tell me, I already know: an item is only worth what someone will pay for it) I know what they going prices are for most of these things in the local antique co-ops and or second hand stores. To sell at a G. Sale, I have to be lower than these folks.

This is the worst time of year to try to sell anything. Why bother? I need money and the space. Oh well.

Solution?) Maybe I'll just throw the more valuable of the items up on my handy dandy free website. Things have been selling that I have listed on it. HUMMMMM. . .

The fun part of having a G. Sale is watching the other ebayers or wannabes scurry around trying to quickly find that one treasure that everyone else has missed. (I sit back and chuckle because that is what my house is filled with and do not need any more at this time, Thank you!) Then rush off to the next sale on their list. I have three gentleman that come over EVERY time I have a sale. One is always looking for coins and watches, one for tools and the other for toys. Never fails. These guys always show up. This time I will have atleast a little of all of these three want.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program

I dunno, eBay hasn't been so bad for me this month. There are definitely fewer items to compete with. Maybe you should list a few things you suspect will bring more than at your garage sale. Do you have a Craig's list in your area? I believe you can list on Craig's list with a link to the item on your website?

L., I think you have to make up your mind that you're going to liquidate all this stuff. Maybe it would help if you visualize all the space that will be freed up. That would sure motivate me.

Having said that, I would toss as many boxes as I could fit into the car and go sell at a flea market. This is actually a *good* time of year; you can take the kidlet and have him help out. Were it me, I would do the Capitol Flea Market on Thursday morning, which is when the dealers go there to shop.

You *might* get a hundred or so people stopping by per day for your garage sale. At a big flea market the numbers will be in the thousands.

Take the usual precautions -- anything really valuable needs to be locked up, have some bottled water and snacks, etc.

If you do decide to do the garage sale and want to sell on consignment, I can cobble together some showcases of jewelry. I think the jewelry did OK at that last sale we did.

Fluffy, what a great idea! I'll contact you off list about the G. Sale. Hmmmm... Maybe have the g. sale first to rid of the "stuff" and head down to S.J. the next week? The kid is in summer school 'til mid august so I am on my own for a Thursday Flea market thing. I like your strategy!

Had the G. Sale. Very unusual for me. The Watch guy showed up but the toy and gold/silver guy were no shows. Very few dealers this time. Lots of interst in household, non collectable items, clothes. Just regular g. sale stuff. interesting. Maybe it was the time of the month? year? who knows.

Now back to your regular scheduled program.

Usually get together with several friends and neighbors for my garage sales. My stuff is mostly collectibles, old glass and porcelain. My friends have household stuff like picture frames, potpourri, toys, small tables, lamps, curtains, bedspreads---newish stuff in good condition. We advertise well, have signs everywhere and get good crowds. Except for early morning dealers looking for specific collectibles, they always get more attention than my tables do. They will get more for an ordinary leather wallet than I am offered for a beautiful piece of Royal Albert or Royal Doulton. Frustrating, but a fact of life around here.

I have not had a garage sale in years and it could be time again. I think it's a bit too hot right now.
The last one I had was really good. There was an estate sale down the street and I got all the dealers. One lady ended up spending $150 for jewelry and purses.

Since I only had one on saturday and not the entire weekend, I am planning the last one this next weekend. Friday and Saturday. You know what really sold ! It was the computer I put together. I made most of my $$ for that day off of that one sale! Money is tight right now. People only spent on stuff they needed or really wanted badly.

Fluffy, if you are feeling better by then, you are invited to bring over your stuff. I am using a canope over the tables. I serve water when it gets really hot. If you want to come and hang out for awhile, we have comfy chairs under the tree.
