It's got a lot of catching up to do to compete with Craigs List.

I think it'll do just fine and here's why:

You don't have to set up a Kijiji (horrible name) account, like you do with Craigslist.

You don't have to deal with the counterculture 70's style community, some of whom are hostile to commerce.

The user interface is clear and easy on the eyes.

I've posted one ad and I'm going to post a lot more. I hope it catches on.

Wow, what a nice clean looking site. Where's all the flashy gaudy ads like ebay has?

My peeve with this site is that you place ads by nearby city?? My city is not listed although it is the largest city in East Texas (180,000 metro population), yet a nearby city which is much smaller is listed. I refuse to place an ad using that town when the greater population is here. And there seems to be no other way to place an ad and no help function. Am I missing something??

I don't know why E-Bay bought that, why do they keep buying all these sites?

I don't think Kijiji was a buy-out. I think it is ebay's own website from the start.

Nothing anywhere near me is listed.
eBay must have purchased for a tax write-off.It may have been an eBay spawn from conception.
I am just hoping something will emerge to REALLY COMPETE with eBay.
Yahoo-no
O-No
Amazon auctions -No

Perhaps someone will Google along soon .

I think they have only just got off the ground with it, maybe a few weeks. Pick the city nearest you if you want to list and then put your own city in the title. Check out the "Post Ad" and follow on down. I just listed a widget today. Also listed it on Craig's list so got 2 things going for me.

A couple of years old now. New in the US

From Wikipedia:

"Kijiji (Swahili for village) is a centralized network of online urban communities for posting local classified advertisements. It is a subsidiary of eBay and was launched in March 2005. Kijiji websites are currently available for more than 300 cities in Germany. Further Kijiji countries are France, Italy, Canada, India, Taiwan, Republic of China and Japan. Kijiji was made available to selected cities in the United States on June 29, 2007.

In November 2004 eBay acquired Marktplaats.nl, which offers a similar classifieds service in the Netherlands, holding a 80% market share. At that time Marktplaats.nl had branched out into Spain, Germany, Turkey and Canada under the brandname Intoko. Intoko Spain merged with Loquo, Intoko Germany merged with Kijiji Germany. Intoko Canada merged with Kijiji Canada. Intoko Turkey is still operating under Intoko.com.tr.

In May 2005 eBay acquired Gumtree, which offers a similar service for cities in Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, as well as the Spanish company Loquo. One month later it acquired opusforum.org, another website offering online classifieds in Germany. In August 2006 Opusforum merged with Kijiji, which became the brand name for the German Speaking Area.
