Been doing of buying in prep for selling end of summer, early fall, but have auctions returned as a viable means of selling?
For the past few years, I've been using BIN to set a fair price based on previous demand for an item and going with it. Too scared to start low and see where it all goes. Worried that a nice item will go for a penny as the buyers seem spread more thin than the sellers. But I enjoy the excitement of auctions too and never knowing where things will end up...
Are auctions back?

Sometimes. A few duds and giveaways, but a few very good auctions even this normally slow time of year.
Actually, I have more lookers on Friday afternoons and Saturdays than most other days of the week. Another surprise -- Monday nights used to be my best times for selling and are now much weaker. Gotta roll with change is all.

I list in auction one time and start most things high but a little less than I feel they should sell for. If they don't sell I put them in my store the next day for at least twice the price and take offers. You would be amazed how often I have an fair offer before the day is done.
It really depends on the item too. If you know it's a winner you can still start it low and get multi bids. But make sure it's not listed when ebay has their 20 cent listing day. It will only get lost then.

Sales have remained steady this summer but I have been much more selective in what I sell, research how saturated eBay is with items, and have started offering items that are not expected to sell with more than 1 bid at BIN.
Edited to add: the least desirable items, listed as BIN, have a higher sell-through rate than the others.
