The post office will deliver free USPS boxes to your home (boxes have the ebay logo).

How cool is that?

Free boxes with a bigger and better selection and without the eBay logo can be had at usps's website too, delivered to your door. My mailman hates me.

here is a little trick.

when you order your monthly boxes...talk with the post master. Tell them you would be happy to pick them all up at once, so that little postal truck doesn't have to make several trips.

Then you can usually get the favor returned to you by asking the post master to slip 1/2 dozen of that PRIORITY TAPE that YOU can't get but they can.... into your order.

One more word of advice - if you can handle it <smile>...

Those boxes with "eBay" on them should have "STEAL ME" on the other side. Having their logo on it may look "cool," but it may also be like a sticker that says: "Valuables Inside." You wouldn't put one of those on your boxes, would you?

It's a sad state of affairs when you have to think this way - but the independent insurance companies (not USPS) have a requirement that you don't label in mark boxes "Insured" for the same reason. The USPS doesn't think that way, because they'll stamp their little hearts out on your package if you ask to insure something through them.

If you were thinking of taking a box that wasn't yours (I know - but play along...) would you take one that said nothing - or one that had an "insured" stamp on it just telling you someone thought it was valuable? Criminals often aren't the smartest, but more often than not - they're not stupid either...

Just something to think about.

And - we get our smelly Priority Tape from the nice folks behind the counter anytime we ask nicely.

Another nice thing about these boxes (just the regular priority boxes) is the size of the box they're delivered in...especially the small size 4 square box. It's a very handy size too! I've found it's more convenient to order these items on the phone. Last time I ordered, there were items available by phone that were not listed on the web site. Haven't visited lately so don't know if that's still the case. You can order pre-addressed (with your return address) priority mailing labels which is nice...and all for free too! The phone number is: 1-800-222-1811.

I can't even get a package delivered to my house,if the postman can't put it in my box than I have to drive 10 miles and go pick it up. I have my Priority boxes delivered to another Post Office and I pick them up there.

I've been getting boxes from USPS delivered to my home for at least two years now. I do not use the ones with eBay written on them. Talk about taunting a thief.

blueyes29 - you took the words right out of my mouth. The box for #4 is the best for large plates/charges etc. You don't even have to ship it USPS - it can go DHL, FedEx or UPS

How wonderful that you can get free boxes from USPS...I am sure that all of us (we??)Canadians are envious.

Canada Post needs to take some lessons! I noticed this post especially this morning because we went to our Box wholesaler yesterday to stock up on boxes and supplies. They are becoming more and more expensive!

Don't kid yourself, they're not free. Our customers pay for them every time we use Priority mail.

Absolutely, Max. We've used Priority Mail extensively in the past 2 years - but we'll probably move away from it more now due to the flippin' dimensional shipping rules. Anything more than 2 or 3 zones away get bumped up to 12-lbs or more depending on the size.

We sold a wonderful teapot that had to be packed larger than 12x12x12 - weighed just over 4 lbs. To ship it to Texas from PA would have cost me $23.00+ -- because of the newly-established dimensional weight.

Same package (12x12x16) via FedEx Home Delivery (Ground) - was $8.69. Since they paid me $11.50 or so for shipping - can you guess which one I chose? And - the benefit for fidgitty buyers - tracking, not delivery confirmation - which, if they have it in their hands, doesn't do much good, huh?

I have always used USPS Priority. They are not free it in with the payment for using the service -PRIORITY MAIL. If you get them and do not use Priority (turn them inside out ) you are not paying for the boxes YOU ARE STEALING the boxes. I am very glad that the USPS is cracking down on this.
I use the boxes, I also use the service they are provided for.

If you use USPS Priority boxes and USPS Priority to mail measuring girth is not an issue.

BTW - they have delivered them free to moi for over 8 years.
I never get the Ebay marked ones .. it is kinda tacky in my view.
I also use these boxes to send International -- girth measuring is a non issue .

Okay...I get the point. I stand corrected.

I guess my point was that at least you are offered something...

Like heck. The price of priority mail is the same whether you use the priority boxes or not. So yes, the boxes are free. You just have to use them only for priority mail. (Or storage)

deur1 - I think you misunderstood my (and blueyes) comment. We are talking about using the box in which the USPS boxes are shipped.
Even the post office tosses these.
There is no restriction on these boxes - so that's not stealing.

Oh ... you can use those, they are trash. I use them from time to time. I still send all domestic USPS Priority.
I send most International First Claas
but do the flat rate Priority at times.

I just think it is funny when a seller in this county tries to send things "media" or turns the boxes inside out.She used to brag about it. She has changed her countenance now that she gets busted. There are at least 25 PO in this county and they all check her packages. I guess they inform each other.

If she drives to another county at least she is using gas, so she still does not get away with it scott -free.

I know that sound mean .... but ya just have to know

deur1 - Dimensional weight is absolutely an issue with mailing Priority. Have you not mailed anything larger than 12x12x12 across country since May 14?
