Holy SSSSHHHHH--------
I am one lucky SOB. I crossed that bridge only moments before the diaster. It is a very sad day in the land of 10,000 lakes. It was especially bad with traffic as there were many people waiting in line to get off of the freeway, on their way to the Twins game at the Metrodome.
This is going to cripple the Twin Cities. That bridge is the main artery to cross the Mississippi River. Yes there are many other bridges, but none of them were as large as this one.
I sure hope that they were able to rescue most of the people. I know of a few deaths, and at this time, they still don't have an idea of who might be in the river. Sad thing is they may never know. The potential of bodies showing up down river will increase during the night.
Wow, the news is interviewing victims right now. This is so sad and yet so lucky for many.

We are all ok and were nowhere near that bridge (it's not one people living in the West metro would use all that often unless going to the University).
My daughter is waiting to hear about her favorite student in a program she has been involved with this summer - he and his mother are missing and the last cell phone trace put them near the bridge at the time of the collapse. They have changed the "missing" count to only 8, so we are puzzled. Hopefully they are well and have been accounted for and just haven't updated the adminstrators of the program, but it does seems unlikely. It's a very sad time here. I never gave a second thought to driving across most bridges, especially ones that looked as stable as this one - 8 lanes wide and not high and spindly.
It's hard to believe that in a nation as rich as the US, we have so many sub-standard bridges!

neglus....did you see this article? The sad part is that every 4th bridge I drive over in my state....IS BAD. I have NO clue which ones they are. If they can tell us the % in each state, why not tell us which ones to avoid. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20093413/

I am so glad to hear that Neglus & family are fine and hope that the Student turns up A-OK.
Stone..you must be a little shaken by the fact that you just missed it and we are glad that you are fine also.
We have a very good customer who lives in Minneapolis and I e-mailed her at work that evening.
She replied the next morning (thank goodness) and she takes that bridge every day to and from work but had already reached home when it happened.
What a tragedy and here on the West Coast of Canada we are following the story closely.

WOW...they updated the article. You can now see EVERY BRIDGE that is faulty in your area. You may want to rearrange your commute. The list is HUGE!
