is this it?

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/identity-false.html

False or Missing Contact Information

Falsifying or omitting contact information such as a member’s name, address, and/or telephone number when registering on eBay is not permitted. It is also not permitted to use fax or disconnected numbers as a telephone number.

If you believe an eBay member is using false contact information, please report it using the Customer Support link at the bottom of this page.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

*

Listing cancellation
*

Limits on account privileges
*

Account suspension
*

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings
*

Loss of PowerSeller status

Some Examples

John Smith lives at 10 Main Street. John registers on eBay, but says his name is Bob Jones, and that he lives at 12 Broad Street. John has violated the eBay False or Missing Contact Information policy.

John’s brother Jim also lives at 10 Main Street. Jim registers on eBay, using his real name and address, but using an old phone number that no longer works. Jim has violated the eBay False or Missing Contact Information policy.

Ebay should allow us sellers to specify the hours we are willing to deal with phone calls.
Or phone call should be the last resort ,only if we do not answer our email.
After all,we did not sell them the item via the phone, everything is conducted in cyberspace,so why call us on the phone unless it cannot be resolved in cyberspace.
Comments please!
Some of the phone calls I receive are either plain scams,or worse from some lonely, emotionally disturbed person!

You are not required to take phone calls from anyone. You just have to have a working phone number on file.

hwahwa,

Don't take this as a slam, but do you still have a rotary phone? I didn't know they still made phones without caller ID any more - seriously.

It's been very prevalent since the '80s and with the increase in incursions into our private lives, it's an almost required feature that enables "YOU" to decide who you talk to and who you don't want to deal with.

It might be worthwhile to invest in a new, full-featured system that puts you back in the driver's seat when it comes to answering those pesky people who might provide you with some of their greenbacks.

You could always provide a toll-free option for them to reach you - where you spend about $9.95 per month and all "messages" are delivered to you in "cyberspace" via e-mail. There are a number of those services around these days.

Just a couple of comments tonight.

..... "We now return you to your regularly scheduled program..."

Oh, come on guys.

Before we bought this house in 1995 we found three identical 2-line phones at a garage sale. We are still using them. The phones are probably 20 years old now. There's nothing wrong with them, they work fine, why replace them?

I have a prepaid cellphone dedicated to nutcase eBay customers.

Fluff,

Glad to know you're still able to use the phones, but once in a while you should treat yourself to something new. Must be the "guy" in me that I love "tech" toys.

I guess I'd draw the following analogy:

You should "upgrade" or "update" your technology much like you should update or upgrade your underwear - as frequently as needed. Now, before you say that you have 20 year old underwear that are just fine... That's great. But you should either 1) treat yourself to a new pair every once in awhile because you deserve it or 2) don't complain when they tend to "bunch" up on ya when you least expect it <smile>... or even 3) update because you might not want to be caught "by accident" with a pair that is "just fine" for you and embarass the ones you love <smile>...

EBay or no eBay, it's time for Caller ID.

I did. I bought an 8gb iPhone.

NO WAY are the customers getting THAT number! It's the lowly prepaid cellphone for them, mateys.

I keep a Princess phone just in case the power goes out but we still have telephone lines here in Florida.

Also, to add to this discussion, almost all phones come with the caller ID feature when you buy them, but most land line phone providers charge a monthly fee for this service and some people are not willing or able to pay for this. My daughter who is on a tight budget has new phones, but does not care to pay for this service. All cell phones come with this feature.

Thanks,Merrie,I was about to say the same.I must have gone thru half a dozen phones in recent years, but I dont subscribe to caller ID .
What if I do,it will not tell me it is an Ebay bidder ,just the name of a person say Mary Lou!
It is always someone who paid little for her item who would call, she either did not receive the item(no dc ) or she showed the item to an antique dealer who said it aint worth much??
Like some of you point out in another thread,we are all selling to each other !
I think my new policy is to ask them to return the item with full refund and pay for their return shipping as well just so I can enjoy my evening !

It's really not very complicated. If you don't recognize the name and have no idea who it is or if you do recognize the name and realize that it is someone you don't wish to speak to, you simply don't answer the phone. They can always leave a message.

There's a third choice. You could stop giving your phone number to lonely, emotionally disturbed people.

As I mentioned once before, I have Skype, both in and out, as a business phone. The Skype phone number is posted on both my store at eBay and Vendio. Phone calls are always welcome.

On or about September 1st., I will be taking phone orders for items listed on the store at Vendio. I plan on listing my Skype phone number in all item descriptions on the store at Vendio. Customers are welcome to ask questions, and purchase items, by phone.

Kozersky,

Did the Skype service come back up yet? It was down for more than 24 hours either Thursday into Friday and still hadn't come back with a real answer as to why - except that there was a problem with the algorithm that allowed your Skype client to connect to their network.

Just curious.

I was away at Las Vegas until last night. I was unaware that Skype was down. It appears to be working fine now.

Shrug. Maybe stamp people are more rational.

Under another eBay ID, I sold a piece of Portmeirion Botanic Garden to a woman. The auction ended July 3. The calls to MY HOME PHONE start that very day. She gets voice mail. She keeps leaving voice mail, through July 4 and into July 5. I am busy with the holiday and family stuff, of course. I pick up the phone on July 5, expecting a call from our travel agent, and it's Ms. Persistent BG Buyer.
"Why haven't you returned my voice mail? Did you have a family emergency?"

So guess what the upshot of all this was, the big hurry and hassle to get her answer: She didn't want to register a credit card with PayPal and I don't ship to Unconfirmed addresses. RIGHT THERE ON THE AUCTION PAGE it says I also take money orders and checks.

"What's your address?" Well, it's in the EOA I sent you but here it is again: ....

"I'm so glad we got this straightened out. This piece is a Christmas gift for my daughter."

The impact of my jaw hitting the tabletop registered on seismographs all through California.

LOL... I'm crackin' up at where this thread went.

I had a buyer last week, who arranged to come and pick up her item at 5:30pm on Friday. I had PLANNED on going out at around 6 or 6:30 that night. She wasn't showing up here, so I waited (and waited.)
I finally went to bed at 9:30

But, I had called two phone numbers I was able to find regarding her, and both were 'wrong numbers'.

..................
She finally contacted me, full of apologies and excuses, she came, she paid, she left.

... i think I'll treat myself to some new underwear today.

OK, so I have caller ID. Where to I purchase new underwear? I guess it could be time to have some without skid marks.

I have a talking caller ID, don't have to get up to see who is calling and then there is the Dish reciever it displays the phone number on my TV screen if I turn that on or plug the phone line in. If I don't recognize the number you guessed it I don't answer especially if it involves getting up to get the phone.
