This guy lolls on a beam of our front deck entry. Thinking about eBay, no doubt. I hope this doesn't come out too dark to see him clearly.

Too cute.
Did anyone see the video of the spinning squirrel. It was crazy - the poor squirrel spun on a bird feeder for what seemed forever - then drop to the ground. It appeared to be OK.
Can't remember what show - American Video's or something like that.

I didn't see that video but would love to.

This Mr Casual has a brother (we think a brother) we call Mr Scrawny. His tail is very weird, very thin and somewhat damaged in indescribable ways. He comes around whenever we leave food out for the birds.

I used to leave food out for the birds but it draws rats, and the rats draw snakes so don't do it anymore. Too bad.......... I wonder if they like SPAM????????

Roadie, we have a Mr. Scrawny too! Well, we call him Mr Stumpy now. He was mauled last summer. I think his tail was broken judging from the way it was hanging when he came back for a visit. It had the funniest crook that made the end of his tail flag around when he waved the rest of his tail. He began losing weight and lost all the fur on his tail. I did not think he would make it through the winter because he looked so sickly last fall. But he seemed to have made it fine and was looking nice and plump again this spring, crooked tail and all.

Then I noticed earlier this summer that the end of the his tail had disappeared and now he is looking weak again. I think something else has caught him and given him another good shake.

We have several regular squirrel visitors that play in our back yard. They all know that Chloe (our pound puppy) would never hurt them on purpose so they are always playing tag with her.

They'll run down the oak trees and sit in the yard chattering trying to get her attention and then run back up the tree before she can catch them.

On the few occasions that she actually caught one, she has always immediately let them go.

Unfortunately, I think Stumpy may have made the mistake of playing tag with another dog in the neighborhood. A dog that did not understand that rules of squirrel tag.

Judging from his new scars, I doubt Mr. Stumpy will make it through the winter this year.

Love your story, LT, and I'll hope your little guy comes through the winter okay. Shortly after we moved to our house up here in the mountains, I looked out our dining room window and saw a sight so horrible I can't erase it from my memory. There were four coyotes on the rocks outside, each with a part of a squirrel they'd caught, and they were fighting over it. The squirrel was struggling mightily. I had to turn away and didn't look out again for hours. It was awful to see. "Nature red in tooth and claw," as someone once said.
