Someone donated these button necklaces to our little museum and said they were made from buttons found in an old factory. They have nothing to do with our town, so I've been given them to dispose of in some way.

The necklaces are about 18" long and are reversible, two-deep in buttons (does that make sense?). Would you sell them on eBay? If so, at what time of year?

They're really rather clever and cute, so I don't want to donate them to a thrift shop if they're worth something. Thanks in advance. ~Adele

as necklaces, they're certainly 'unique'! ... maybe the BOHO crowd would like them.

Actually the are not "unique". My mother was a button collector who made lots of button necklaces and bracelets. Are the buttons plastic? The white one looks like it might be mother of pearl.

I also made some necklaces from her buttons but I like more variety. I made one with old plastic and Bakelite figural buttons on a Bakelite purse handle and one with vintage wooden buttons on a wood link and cord belt. This inspires me to get them out and wear them. I always got a lot of complements when I did.

I did a completed search for button necklace on Ebay. I came up with 565 hits. Not all were appropriate, I have no idea how Ebay finds these search items, any way, did not look like there was a lot of interest, but I did not spend a lot of time on this research. Saw several that were like yours.

Those are really neat looking. The wife saw them and said that gives her ideas on doing some herself for herself from old buttons she got from her grandmother. She says thanks for the great idea.

They look good together. I'd list them as a lot.

There button collectors, along with just about everything else. If you knew the name of the town and or the factory where they were made that might attract additional interest.

Sadly, these buttons are much too common and not of a type to interest very many button collectors.

Thanks, everyone! None of your responses came to my e-mail (probably forgot to check the box), so it wasn't until tonight that I looked here to see if any had responded.

I dunno--maybe I'll just list one to see, or list three in different colors, and see how they do. Our little museum doesn't want them, so it's all gravy.

Glad to give the wife some ideas, irked!

Another thought, based on what Hwahwa said: Perhaps I'll list them in children's jewelry, if there's such a category, or at least put that in the title. . . .
