"Shop VICTORIOUS" ... with a lil' "TM" next to it, it looks like ...
that's like trying to trademark, "You're fired."

I agree, what a dumb slogan. It should have been something like - "Shop Securely."

How about:
Shop VIGOROUSLY & OFTEN
If they really needed a new tagline they should run a contest for a slogan! I am sure that Buyers & Sellers could come up with better things than IT...

It is rather stupid. Wonder how much the idiots spent coming up with that slogan. Sounds like something one of the big dogs came up with and none of the lap dogs had the guts to say "Your a moron and its a stupid idea"

It sounds to me like some slogan they had in WW2. How many people think they "shop victoriously", it just doesn't seem to apply to shopping. "Shop vigorously", or "Shop aggressively" seem more appropriate.

I guess they are saying that you should "WIN" your item, therefore shop core rather than store?!?

My guess is that they are trying to appeal to folk's subconscious need for a victory. A bit misplaced IMHO.

I agree with amber in that it certainly does sound like a World War ll slogan.
Then of course we have England's National Anthem
"send her Victorious, Happy & Glorious"
Could be a Soccer match slogan...
I am sorry but the last thing that comes to mind when I read it is anything BUT buying on eBay.

I can MAYBE see what they are going for. When you bid high you WIN - therefore you are VICTORIOUS, but it is a real stretch.

No wonder it's so bad... eBay's using the same ad company that it used for the "it" campaign:

Isn't it great to see all our seller fees wasted like this...

LOL a 5 syllable word for a slogan!?? Fire the ad agency, eBay. That certainly isn't going to persuade my 23 year old "material girl" daughter to shop eBay. They've missed "IT" again.

Well, the word "victoriously" has been bothering me. I have always loved words and their meanings. I didn't see how you could do anything victoriously because the word victory is the end result of something, not an adjective. So I looked it up our huge Websters Enclyclopedic dictionary, and sure enough, no "victoriously". It says that victory is the result of a battle or contest. While you are actually fighting or competing, you cannot possibly do it "victoriously", victory is the end result of the action.

That's odd. It's in my Websters. (Third New International) Right between victorious and victoriousness.
adv. in a victorious manner

"Shop Victoriously" sounds more like a line from MacBeth
It is a lame-brain tag for eBay!
Fair is foul, and foul is fair:
Hover through the fog and filthy air.
Hence "Shop Victoriously" and conquer!

That's interesting. My Websters goes Victorio-victorious-victory-victual. No victoriously.
Talking about words, I was talking to my 5 year old granddaughter on the phone who love big words. She is trying to learn to skip, and is not satisfied with her progress. She told me "Grandma, I need to be more industrious and more tenacious". I had to look up tenacious!

Your granddaughter is slicker with words than eBay's ad agency - ask her to come up with a better 5 syllable catchword!

Some dictionaries will omit "victoriously" because forming an adverb by adding -ly to an adjective is very basic grammar. If "victorious" modifies a noun, "victoriously" has to modify a verb. Basic stuff.
"Shop Victoriously" isn't such a bad slogan, really, if eBay wants to communicate to the buyer to "Shop until you win! Be a winner!".

Wonder why they didn't think of "Win It" which would have tied in nicely with the previous "It" campaign? Short, sweet and to the point...

I like the new ads, particularly the Dog Race ad.
I've run into some bidders who are real dogs.
But that's not it: they're cute and funny. I would have liked to have seen an 80-year-old granny knocking down some burly guy in the football ad.
The thrill of victory, the agony of de feet.
