I recently purchased a small doll in Welsh costume. She is made of some sort of china or porcelain. What I need to know is what kind of product this could be so that I can look it up? I have heard of bisque, but I am not sure what that is. The whole body is made of it, and the doll is probably from the 50's or 60's.

Thanks neglus, that was very helpful. I have to admit I know NOTHING about doll, but being English and loving Wales, I was attracted to this one.

I've sold dolls from my mother's collection and ones I have bought at auction. Dolls can be any of the materials you mentioned, china, pocelain or bisque. China and porcelain are usually glazed, therfore smooth and shiny. If you list a doll and it is of interest to doll collectors, they will usually correct your details and offer helpful ideas as to origin, etc. The most helpful and necessary info are the markings usually on the back of the head or the back. In the case of Barbie and some newer dolls markings may be on the Butt.
