I recently joined several fun groups. The first group was pretty loosely organized and people posted links to websites freely whenever they want to show off art work that they had come across. Not as a way to direct sales off the site, but as a "look what is out there" type of thing. They also posted in one thread about problems buying and selling on Ebay. This second group has spun off from the first group. Lots of fun, creative people. But this group is SO afraid of Ebay guidelines it is a real damper on things. Why is it that people can have links to their OWN website from their ME page, but we can't post those same people's Ebay auction and mention the link in their ME page? Hope this made sense.

but we can't post those same people's Ebay auction

I think eBay considers that advertising or soliciting.

Sounds like the group administrator is taking their job far too seriously. I belonged to a low-profile group and we frequently posted links or references to auctions - super high-end "to drool for" items as well as "what are they thinking?" listings. No one took offense, no one reported us. If a pink had stumbled across a link that wasn't allowed, I'm sure the most we would have received would have been an educational reprimand.

I don't understand why people use eBay groups when there are so many unmoderated alternatives available, such as setting up your own group on Yahoo.

It is odd that Ebay considers it advertising or soliciting when they allow it in an auction. It is okay to put your website live link in your ME page which is right off your auction, BUT it is advertising or soliciting if a group mentions that you should go see johndoe888's ME page and his website to see the great thing they make.

I agree Fluff. Some place where you can talk freely. Like here! That's why I came here. But in this case, I looked at Yahoo Groups for the same topic and surprisingly there wasn't much available. I joined one but it is in AUSTRALIA and actually pretty boring! I belong to lots of dog groups on Yahoo and they are great. For some reason this latest interest I have isn't a big deal on Yahoo.

Ebay cancelled all the local groups I belonged to.

I didn't think that the "Groups" part of the eBay Community was even moderated by Pinks.I agree with Pixiamom - the group leader must be overzealous.

So start a Yahoo group and tell everyone in the eBay group how to sign up.

It is a spin off of another group and I think they are afraid of being turned in by the other group if they aren't careful. There are a discouraging amount of rules for the groups. I had no idea until I looked yesterday. It is like Ebay is the gestapo. They put competing links all over their site but we aren't suppose to even mention links from a ME page? I can't be a mouse so I just left the group yesterday. They were wonderful people but way over reacting as to what Ebay might do or say about things. It is a shame. I think Yahoo would be the best option but I have searched a couple of times and the groups are not what I am looking for.

It was dead! People rarely posted , I only talked to myself.

I tried the now defunct OTWA , it was ok .
I am now with another one but it is not lively.
Maybe it is not the sites fault. It is probably just me, cuz most threads do not interest me. I need to start contributing more posts to the place before I judge. I do post because if you do not post every 30 days you are GONE.
Methinks some here may be there, I know some from OTWA are there.

Overall VD is by far the bested place for me.
