I found this tidbit on the Stores board - if you don't mind a few swear words, I think you can appreciate the rant (from Portland Oregon Craig's List): http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/rnr/449401719.html

I didn't have a clue they that kind of stuff on Craig's list. Thanks!
This person almost is as good as Fluffy, almost.
I had to smile. Those of us who are lucky enough to have a relationship with our local PO where all we do is place our bucket of packages on the empty counter and wave at Connie or Art or Jimmy on our way out... And don't forget to leave a box of chocolates or plate of brownies once in awhile...good times.

Sorry, I missed seeing Fluff's wit in most of the rants. Had the ranter been a few miles north, he would have encountered a much more docile crowd at the Post Office. In our 20th minute of waiting (at the automated center), we still had a bemused countenance. Berating a person because they do not recognize that the postal clerks are EXPERTS - well, that just seems to speak for itself.

The characterizations of the individuals along with nicknames is what made me think of fluffy.
She has written in other areas besides our humble home here. She is a very good writer, witty and to the point.
I enjoy "most" of what she writes (sometimes she hits a little too clse to home .
I also enjoyed this rant. Again, the characterizations were good. As for the individual, their character or anything about them outside of the writing style and substance, I have no opinion.

Beth, I think my distaste for this rant's attempt at wit arises from their overuse of offensive stereotypes, which (thank god) Fluffy does not rely on. "White trailer trash" is one of them, granted, the word "white" was not initially spelled out, but was inferred later with "WT". What are we to infer with the word "Tard"? And one of the redeeming qualities of WT was that she weighs less than 200 lbs? I am over sensitive to this post because I am in the same city, have to put up with the "my mail is better than your Goodwill fodder" all the time.

Well Jane - aren't we crabby today? I guess I didn't read it carefully enough to glean all those stereotypes - just thought it described (to some extent) my stream of consciousness as I wait "patiently" in line to buy stamps. The fact that the experience is so universal speaks volumes about USPS doesn't it? Why don't they ever have enough clerks?
They built this nifty brick post office to serve my rapidly growing community a few years ago (I think Geo Bush the elder's name is on the plaque so I guess it's a LITTLE more than a few years ago; now that I think about it, may even be Reagan's name on the plaque) with THREE clerical stations! What were they thinking? Three has never been enough - not in 1990 or whenever and certainly not today. SIGH! Of course the area by now has been swallowed-up by commerce and there's no room to expand.

This is the GOOD season when my Carnegie-library era un-air-conditioned post office benefits from the heat generated by by the herd of sweaty folks waiting in line. Twenty minutes is nothing! If I wait 40 minutes in line to mail two problem international packages, am told by the "experts" it will cost $20 more than I expected, I will cause a ruckus- sorry, folks behind me.
