I have a package that was sent to the UK on 10/1. She still has not received it. The customs number doesn't indicate that it ever arrived overseas. If it doesn't arrive soon, I will have to refund. Should I refund the postage as well? That will really put me at a loss since shipping was $20! I'm not sure how to handle this one. Fortunately, she is being very understanding. There is a postal strike in the UK and she knows the hold-up could be on her end. I've instructed her to contact her customs office and her postal office. Is there anything else I should do? I did talk to my postal clerk this morning who didn't seem too concerned (is that a surprise?). This loss would be almost $100!

Cheryl , there were postal strikes in Great Britain -Royal Post last week. This has slowed down delivery .
Surely your customer knows about this

here is the official Royal Post statement - of course it was more widespread than they admit

I would ask her to wait - I have had packages held up as long as 30 days for the UK - I think it will eventually arrive - ask her to wait until 10/29 - that will give it about 4 weeks - you can't help a postal strike on their end.

Did she have it insured? If so, how did you insure it? Some insurances will not allow you to file non receipt claims for international packages for 30 days.

Also - what was the item? Any way that customs could have seized it? I had it happen with a scroll painting that had bone end caps - they decided it was ivory and the package disappeared - of course Paypal refunded the buyer and I was out $125. I could not file a claim with DSI because the Buyer would not fill out the paperwork needed, since he already had his refund. Ouch!

Hi, Caroline. The package contained three shirts. Nothing unusual at all. I'm sure it's held up at her end. I gave her the customs number and hopefully, she'll check with customs on her end. I'm sure that, even though this is not fault of mine, I'll get a nice ding on my stars no matter what I do. Danged DSR's.

I have a slow package to England also. Almost 2 months now. This has happened quite a lot, and they do always arrive. Like you, I am trying to hold off refunding because I am pretty sure it will turn up eventually.

Today a package I mailed to LA July 5th was returned to me, "unknown." LA is very close to Idyllwild; the buyer had been very nice about it this summer, said well these things happen, didn't even leave a neg! I've just now e-mailed her to ask for address confirmation. The big mystery is where this package has been hiding all these months. These things happen even in our country!

I heard a postal clerk remind a customer today that beginning about now, parcel post is extremely slow through the Christmas season. I hardly ever use that method, but it was a good reminder for me.

...as the Supreme Court takes up this issue again, I remember what Justice Harry Blackmun said after a 20-year struggle about just ways to administer the death penalty: "From this day forward, I no longer shall tinker with the machinery of death."

We are still tinkering. This time, we're tinkering with the dosage and the training. Tinkering with competence and mistakes. We are tinkering, tinkering, tinkering to avoid the possibility that we can't have our death penalty and our humanity, too.

Tom: If it is not too much of a bother could you check one for me too? I could send the number to you later today but don't have your email.

Mine is public, just click on my name, it's on my profile. Or if you have a link to where I could check, I would appreciate that. Thank you.

BTW, I have refunded too early on some of these and now wait.
