Several months ago, I posted a question about this item...wondering what it was. Several asked that I post again when I listed it. It's on now...item #360001935326 just in case anyone's interested. Got no consensus on what it was but it's still pretty. I DID find out what it was NOT...it's not a vintage drug store "show globe". Thanks again for all the info/suggestions.

It reminds me of a water barometer...or a storm glass???

Something to do with weather???

OTOH: it's probably some perverted BONG?

I really don't know...had all sorts of various guesses on the last post. Seems to me that if it were weather-related, it would be clear glass. Maybe someone will be able to identify it "fer sure"...

Still reminds me of the blobs hanging from my Mom's dream sunken living room in the 1960's.

Edited to add, my Mom has a wonderful sense of decorating- yet she goes with the times, these look like popular light globes from the 1960's.

Just decorative, in the form of a lantern. Probably from the "Mediterranean" decorating rage of the early 70's.

Most likely a Mexican import. This belongs in the same category as those "mystery" cooking pans, etc. that look old and unusual, but meant as home decor.

Most seem to think this is from the 60's/70's era. I remember those too but seem to recall they had loops on the sides where they were hung. This one has the loop on the top...Maybe it was designed to be a "swag"-type hanger? Oh well...I'll see how it does...Thanks for all the input.

I acually think it's newer than 60's-70's. Modern Chinese import? JMHO

This was purchased in an antique store (although I know that's no guarantee of "antiqueness" but the discoloration on the metal framework does lead me to think it's not of really recent vintage...I'm most definitely NOT an "expert" though...wish things like this would come with little notes telling about them!

I think I saw something like this under Murano Glass just recently.

It is so pretty and maybe you will have someone let you know what it really is!

I peeked at your other items for sale and was instantly transported back to a time when I used to wear my Pearl necklace tie to the Office! That was in the days before 'ladies' wore scruffy pants and un-ironed blouses to work as they do now!

Hey "otter"...what fun! I also had one of these and wore it a lot! This one belongs to my mother who we've FINALLY convinced to get rid of some of her accumulated treasures! Actually, I think they still look pretty spiffy...I also remember the "good old days" when, IF we ladies wore pants suits, they HAD to be actual "suits" and not just pants and a shirt or top. In my college days we weren't permitted to wear cut-offs to class either! We did anyway but had to hide them beneath a trench coat! Am I dating myself?
