I've been using Vendio for years, but I just noticed something I haven't seen before.
Last night I took a long look at my items on eBay and noticed that they have been revised twice each, and I didn't revise them!
So then they got removed from the list and re-indexed later because of the revisions.
I contacted eBay live help and spoke with someone in the Account Security Dept.
She told me that the revisions were made by a third party.
I'm wondering if it was Vendio as this is the only third party site that I use.
If this is the case then all of my auctions all of this time keep getting re-indexed which is not good because they get re-listed at a time that is too late at night.
Any thoughts on this?

I would post this in a Vendio Services forum to get a reply from Customer Service.

It's probably the customer appreciation thingy. I was OK with it but not if it knocks the listing out of the search for hours? It can take up to 12 hours to get back in. Is that the case?

Yes I did find out more. Just today I listed 4 more items and they were listed on the eBay auctions then got a few hits. Just a little later I saw that my items were off again...no more hits, and still I am waiting for them to re-index. When the buyer appreciation scroll bar was on (I since disabled it) it would re-list twice, doubling the problem! I am disabling my whole account with Vendio because of this. It not only hurts the specific items but also the items that could have been seen otherwise. I hope this opens some eyes to what's going on here.

I am going to close my account now because of this and won't be able to post anymore. I hope someone keeps this going so that it's not forgotten.

You can close your account and still post. Many of the "regulars" are not Vendio users.
That really is bad - though not Vendio's fault. EBay is responsible for the delay in indexing in the first place and it doesn't seem to be a problem in many categories. Most of my items are indexed immediately - I see delays when I use some of the mystery keywords: MONT-BLANC (mountain in France) and also expensive and frequently counterfeited pen; stage COACH (I list the horse-drawn kind but the word COACH sets off alarms because of the purses). I imagine art work is subject to the same kind of delays because of frequent forgeries etc.
Aside from attaching the gallery and customer appreciation to the auction from the beginning (maybe Vendio could work out a way to incorporate in custom listing text) so items would not have to be revised to add later I don't know what Vendio could do about the problem.

An aside question on the word "coach". I have a really nice leather necktie case to list, it has no name brand. I see that several are listed without brand names and called "coach leather". What is that? How do you know that it is coach leather if it's not marked? I certainly don't want to misrepresent it, it is obviously good quality.

I wouldn't even think of using coach leather in a listing unless it is marked "Coach". I have never heard of Coach leather as anything but a brand name. My aunt gave me my first purse in 1965 when I was 13 - it was a red Coach. How I loved that purse!

Thanks Pixiamom, I did wonder about it, I thought maybe it was a type of leather, I didn't know it was a brand, I will certainly not use that name in my auction.

Neglus,
I know you meant to stay on topic with this so thanks for the post.
I did somemore searching and saw that vendio actually has a sevice that lets and encourages sellers to revise and keep re-indexing. I'm amazed. I'm amazed especially that ebay allows this cheating to happen. It's obviously effecting many unsuspecting sellers. I saw a listing today that had literally THOUSANDS...YES THOUSANDS of revisions made by vendio. I can name names or auction numbers but then I would probably get into trouble for exposing this terrible injustice.
Thanks again Neglus and I hope this thread stays on topic so that this problem can be known.

What benefit would re-indexing hold if the item is indexed right the first time? Vendio reviser was initially used for automatic auction extensions (which I do think is a form of cheating) but that was outlawed by eBay some time ago.

Because when you item is re-indexed it gets back into the "newly listed" list. I see some auctions (especially in the "Self Representing Artist" category, that stay on top of the "Newly Listed list even though they were listed days ago. The most important times of a listing is when it is first listed and when it's close to ending. Some sellers are taking advantage of this automatic revising feature that vendio offers, to keep they're auctions visible in "newly listed". However it's not fair to other sellers. I have reported this problem to ebay and hope they will not allow this scam to continue.

Are you sure the newly listed items are sorted by indexing date instead of listing date? If it's true, I'm tempted to cheat and revise often. I can revise via eBay as well as through Vendio.

The eBay Store Boards are convinced that reindexing helps store sales. They put their stores on vacation, adjust things, etc.
I never opted in for the customer appreciation thing, but notice that roadsmith uses it.
Is it any good?

Beth: I have no proof that the buyer-appreciation e-mail has made a whit of difference. Every now and then a buyer who's received one writes back to me, probably thinking I personally sent the message.
I have a simple-minded question here: What exactly is "re-indexing"?

Roadsmith, eBay keeps all the listings in a database. Instead of searching the listings serially, one word at a time, eBay first indexes them by key words which helps the search go faster. Sometimes the indexing takes several hours when your item can't be found in a search at all, except by item number. eBay had some major search problems a while back, they have multiple servers and some of them did not return all items matching the search. Some of us thought that by revising our listings and forcing eBay to re-index them, it would make our listings more searchable. I'm still not convinced that this wasn't voo-doo thinking, trying to correct a problem that eBay has never addressed.

Pixi--Thanks for the explanation. Don't most of us try to get all the pertinent keywords into our auctions when we write them? The re-indexing sounds like more work than if we just write carefully the first time. Or am I missing something here?

Some of us were convinced that for a while, eBay didn't get some records indexed the first time. We revised them, not to add new keywords, but to force eBay to see that the item was revised and needed indexing again.

Ah. So you revised them in some other way, perhaps changing a word or such, to get eBay's attention?

Yep, was told that putting my store on vacation for a few hours would do the same thing so I usually did that.
