I would like to list an item that I absolutely, positively refuse to pack and ship. It must be a local pickup only. I know that buyers sometimes ignore or don't see local pickup only restrictions no matter how loudly you state them. I really do not want the listing to end with a bidder on the East Coast. I know it could happen. I don't even want to deal with a friendly relist/UPi dispute.

If we still had the ability to list pre-approved listings, I would list it that way, make sure the interested parties were local and then allow them to bid. Thanks to Mommy eBay, I can't do that, SO, I am wondering if I would be violating any rules by the listing the item and explaining in the listing that I will end the listing to sell to the high bidder as soon as I know they are local and can do a pickup. I would open the bidding at the price I want.

Does this make sense? Can we still end listings to sell to the highest bidders and am I okay if I explain this in the listing?

Edit it to say "No shipping. Local pickup only." That you will find under Shipping when you edit. Then, I would start and end the auction with big bold letters: Pick-up only. No shipping. Or, something to that affect. If someone from across the country does bid, you will have a legit reason to cancel their bid.

I can't see why you can't state your intent to end the auction early once you have a qualified buyer.

You can end your auction any time you want. It's one of the last freedoms we have left.

Thanks for the replies.

Cblev, that would be an option if every eBayer were reasonable and knew how to read but I've had problems in the past so I know some aren't and many can't. This is a seasonal item and I don't want to wait a week to relist or wait another year to get rid of it. You can cancel bids unless they are snipe bids and then you are scr#@ed.

I agree this is one of our last eBay freedoms and I think I am going to give it a try. I do have luck on Craigslist with industrial and business type items but couldn't sell a collectible there to save my life so I'm going to see how this works.

Load it up and move it out! Hopefully...

We no longer have that option.

Fluffy,

"You can end your auction any time you want. It's one of the last freedoms we have left."

Well, you can until there are only 12 hours left in the auction. After that point, it requires an act of Congress.

Isn't there a way to list locally only? Don't tell me ebay has taken that away too.
