My policy......I have a no refund policy... but things do come up.. so will handle on a case by case deal......35% restocking fee for buyers remorse.

Buyer wants refund... says it is too much money for the item with the reshipping fee...

I have a buyer who purchased an item 12-20-07.....and paid Paypal.

I shipped the item 12-21-07.

The Post office tried to delivery the item 12-24-07..christmas eve... to a business address.. which was closed ???.
next delivery attempt was 12-31-07 New Years Eve... business closed again ???

after 15 days.. they returned the item back to me....

Just got it back... emailed the buyer and explained that the item was returned to me.

Let him know that the reshipping fee would be $6.95 and he could remake payment.

Buyer never contacted me to "" ask where is my item "" ???

Where is the buyers responsiblity when they purchase an item .. it tries to get delivered...and never picks it up... and then wants a refund ???

He will just file with paypal and they will give him his money, including shipping (it sucks)

I had my first PayPal dispute with a buyer back in November. I took the opportunity given to elevate the dispute and stated my side of the case.

After a month, PayPal wrote to say the buyer needed to send the "broken" item back to me at his expense, and he'd receive a refund.

Buyer never opted to do that, so I have the money, and he has the "broken" item.

I'd always heard that there was no hope with a PayPal dispute, but I answered calmly when given the chance to give my side of the case AND I suggest PayPal look at the guy's feedbacks; he'd had two other similar disputes in the past couple of months and I suspected something crooked was going on.

My point is that there's always hope!

It might be that it's lunchtime here and I'm hungry, but I always like to use analogies because people can often relate to other circumstances - and put things into perspective easier... (And, Fluffy will like this, I'm sure.)

As Forrest Gump's mother used to say:

"Selling on eBay is like eating a box of chocolates... Sometimes you get a nut."

You uncovered a nut. You can spit it out and move on to the next delicious, gooey piece in the box (new, happy customer who appreciates your extra care and quick shipping)... or, you can chew on it and complain about the taste to everyone who will listen...

(I can't believe I'm going to say this, but...)

Time to spit.

I have had items returned to me as "unclaimed" and the buyers have never, ever asked about them. I wait for them to contact me. They never did. I have the items sitting in a corner of my computer room. Some over a year. Buyers forget. I don't remind them if it is their fault.

Forest Gump's mother has not kept up with today's ugly retail environment especially selling on Ebay.
Else she would say it is like eating rocks, every now and then you are treated with pure chocolate.
Margin is so low on Ebay, sellers cant afford to absorb extra costs such as reshipping, replacment, all these nice gestures we learn in school of retailing !
I just have lunch, now I have to go and treat myself with some rice cake, thats all I can afford today,no chocolate no nuts!

Oh,lets just blame it on the rising middle class of China and India for the rising cost of chocolate and nuts!
Lets all stop whining !

Technically since your choice in delivery companies didn't deliver, you are still responsible to make sure the buyer receives the item they paid for. Since he paid with PayPal (or even if they used a credit card) and they don't have the item, they can file for their money back.

Stone's absolutely correct. I just chuckle at those who have that kind of language in their listings. Responsibility cannot be avoided if a buyer insists they have not received it and you can't prove otherwise.

Actually, responsibility can be waived by the USPS - as I found out today. You can pay them their fees and when they don't deliver 30+ days later, they can keep your money and tell you it was your fault for using their service. (Trus story for us today. The only think I can do is file a complaint for non-delivery. I'm going to use the opportunity to appeal to our local postmaster's sense of fairness - and see if I can build a better relationship there.

But - I can't use that excuse for my customer. It's a relatively low-priced item and we'll refund the total amount paid. Additional hassle isn't an investment I want to make now.
