Feb. 18 - 25. Don't know if it will work, but heck at this point, why not?

It won't work...again, a boycott that lasts a day or a week is useless. It needs to be ongoing to work, and I for one, won't participate in that. I've already moved most of my business off ebay, that is how you protest!

They're talking about an entire week. I'm afraid you are right, though.

For sure ebayvet is right, but at least sellers ars speaking out & doing what they can so why not join the boyctt.
Another thing is there are millions of small sellers that have no idea there are major changes. I know eight sellers myself that are completely oblivious to what's going on and I'm sure most everyone else does too so get the word out to them. Maybe it won't help, but it sure couldn't hurt.

At least they are trying to do something rather than sitting back and letting Ebay trash their sellers - the ones paying the fees, you know, the one paying their salaries!!!

Sellers need a guild or merchants' union. Without organization, taking a week off just doesn't make sense.

Well I'm going to do it. Ebay may not notice (unless everyone did it) until much later when they see the drop in profits for that week.
I will use that week to work on my new website.
Pixiamom - that's a great idea. We really do need this. One seller has no power on their own but as a group!!!!!!!!!!

I'm doing it too. I need a week to do paperwork, organize and work on my ecrater store: The Soda Shoppe.

Have a good week off. I've been moving my business away from ebay over the past few years. I went from something like 95% on ebay in 2003 to probably less than 20% last year. Before this latest fee change which they said was going to be less risk and lower fees but is actually going to be a huge fee increase for me, I was thinking I would reverse the trend this year and increase my ebay business.
Taking a week off and going back to business as usual won't change anything. It's not like a week of maybe 1% fewer listings won't affect ebay's bottom line at all...

ebayvet: Of all the participants in this thread, you are the only one who keeps making these vague pronouncements about how you're moving away from eBay, but you have never deigned to share with us what you sell on eBay.
Cheryl sells jewelry and accessories. Jane, rubber stamps. Caroline (I believe) antiques and collectibles. Pixiamom, postcards of course. Ladyjewels, jewelry and vintage furnishings/accessories. Beth sells ads. I sell sterling silver jewelry.
Some items translate well to a website. Others do not.
So come clean. What do you sell?

Fluffy - Thanks to my friend's need to spend money on things she don't need I also sell woman's plus size clothing, collectibles, etc. She's really kept me quite busy. Like a gardener's set. Instead of buying just one, she bought six thinking she'd give them away as gifts. I now have them. I will also be selling handmade purses for her SIL, and things that belong to her mother. Some days, my storage room resembles that of a department store!

Yes, what I sell (music and movies) sell very well outside of ebay. Some items don't, but there are a lot of niche marketplaces if you are specific enough. It's all about marketing though, I have a good following of hundreds of customers who will purchase from my on my own site, that takes years to build. That can happen with any product. I won't give up ebay completely, they are a great source to get new customers.

Here's the link to my eCrater (currently almost empty) store: http://www.kcskorner.ecrater.com
What I have is a kcskorner.com domain, which redirects to my eBay store currently. I will change that once I close my eBay store. It will redirect to the eCrater store.
eCrater now offers inventory control! It's great. Plus they assist you in submitting to search engines. If you want more exposure, they do have a pay per month fee. Not sure what that is. But, heck, I pay eBay for no exposure!

Fluffy - the jewelry competition isn't too bad right now. You'd probably do quite well there. It's free. What could it hurt? With your loyal following you'd probably make out quite well.

Thanks for the heads-up, Cheryl. I did this experiment years ago when Overstock Auctions came on line, figuring my customer base would go with me. Some did, most didn't.
I am hesitant to try again because there is a huge time cost involved. I don't have any spare time once family time, the eBay business and all my web pages are accounted for.
I've fought hard over the years just to *stay* on eBay. I'm not giving up now. Which is not to say I don't sympathize with those hit hard by the new eBay fascist regime.

Not sure exactly what I am going to do, but some subtle things I intend to implement that I probably should have been doing all along.
Clean out my PayPal account everyday. Ebay makes big bucks on funds sitting there. Pay for anything I buy via Ebay using a CC, they HATE that. I have always done that to have "extra" protection.
No extra enhancements added. They are "giving" us Gallery. I use very little else, but no subtitle, no 10 days, no second category, etc, etc.
I am sure there are other ways to hit them in the pocketbook.

Yes, there are other ways.
Put up an eBay affiliate website. I have a bunch of them. eBay pays ME every day.
I'm not going to try to kid you and say that affiliate commissions cover my eBay fees...they don't, not at this point. But the sites bring in much more than the cost of the web hosting. So I reinvest the profits by paying people to create content for me.
I also get AdSense commissions, as well as Sedo commissions for parked domains. Parked domains are undeveloped websites that have advertising. You've seen them.
There is a big, really BIG, seller on eBay who is about to quit because he won't be able to afford the new fees. He has his own website with tons of links back to eBay; he gets 15,000 to 20,000 hits a month. Yet he is not an eBay affiliate.
That's just leaving money on the table.

I am curious why the dates of 18-25. The new pricing starts on 2/20, so why boycott starting on 2/18? Just wandering what the rationale was for the starting date.
If you have a store and list things on 2/18 and 2/19 you will still get the same final fees until they roll over.

I agree with the protest no sales week. The only worry I have is that Evay will have a free listind day this week to sabotage this. So it they decide to have a free listing day - we need to change the no listing week one week!!!

So it they decide to have a free listing day - we need to change the no listing week one week!!!
From now on, "Free Listing Day" doesn't mean as much as long as eBaY is taking a bigger piece of the pie from the closing price. Sellers will need a 'Free FVF' day!
I just registered with eCrater.
Taking a week off from eBaY only to list the following week doesn't hurt eBaYs bottom line. It costs them nothing and proves nothing. So what if there is a drop in the number of eBaY listings? It will result in making eBaY look better the next week (comparable increase in listings)!
The 'Big Picture' has eBaY looking bigger, better, and stronger in the end!
That is not a protest, it is a bonus for eBaY!
Sellers have always had the opportunity to expand their business elsewhere.
If you feel something on your back, that is eBaY shoving you ~ look beyond eBaY.
Listing and selling items someplace other than eBaY will effect their income.
Listing stuff the next week is hardly a 'protest'.

This decision is easy for me! I'll be away that week and don't want any listings to end even the week before, so nothing doing from now until March.

You are all going to hate me, I need to list as much as I can because I have to get my Power Seller designation back to get even a little break. I will try not to list on the 20th and beyond if I can get my sales up before then. I did great in January and just need two more good months to get it back. I am with you in spirit but I need the income (little that it is sometimes). Having the correct star rating does me no good at all if I am not a Power Seller, that part sucks too.

Overstock has its own customer base, when they visit the site, they have shopping on their mind.
I sold over 250 smaill items ($10 ),most of the bidders are Overstock customers, many do not bid on Ebay and know nothing about Paypal.
Same can be said of some Yahoo shoppers, they dont have time or interest to browse, bid or snipe on Ebay. They want to buy an item, they dont want to hear that the item is chipped or cracked or the seller does not know if it works or not .They will pay your asking price and expect it to be packed well and shipped in a timely manner.

Is it because of the end date that they are starting when they are. If you auctions end when the new prices come into effect than everyone is charged the higher FVF.
Cheryl did you make your own avatar or did you find a free place to do it? Mine is to small but not by much. I need 250+ pixels and I only find one that is 240. Also how do you replace the picture in the left upper corner? I have been reading and reading but I can't seem to find out how to do it.
