REAL AUCTIONS:

BIDTOPIA is an exciting new version of the online auction, with a revolutionary format designed to mimic a live auction. Our auctions have an estimated ending time, however, any additional bid that happens within the last 60 seconds will extend the ending time for another minute (also known as popcorn bidding). BIDTOPIA requires all sellers on the exchange to adhere to a strict policy allowing only .99 starting prices with no reserve, keeping the BIDTOPIA uncluttered from higher priced "BUY IT NOW" or "STORE" formats.

REAL SELLERS:

BIDTOPIA does not allow just any seller who has an internet connection and a free email address to use our site, we thoroughly investigate each of our sellers' facilities and inventory and hold them to unique standards. To ensure our clients get the paramount of service, BIDTOPIA hand selects its sellers through a vigorous application process. BIDTOPIA requires each seller to maintain a steady volume of product with a minimum sell-through rate. Our sellers must also have previous online retail or auction experience, as well as a legitimate business location. Sellers will be allowed to cross promote their web site, or even other auction sites, from the BIDTOPIA platform.

REAL BUYERS:

Just like buyers need quality sellers, sellers need quality buyers. BIDTOPIA ensures the reputation of its buyers with cutting-edge standards of excellence .BIDTOPIA is the only online auction site that actually qualifies its buyers with a diminutive registration fee, which ties the bidder to a valid credit card/Paypal account and email address. This fee not only ensures buyer reputation and payment ability, it also prevents malicious bidders from returning to our site. Once a BIDTOPIA buyer fails to pay for over 10% of their won items, the buyer is removed from the exchange and banned from the site.

REAL FEEDBACK:

BIDTOPIA is the first to institute a revolutionary feedback system which avoids the "tit for tat" retaliation found on others auction sites. Feedback is automatically left for buyers the moment they pay, or don't pay, for an auction. This eliminates the fear that a Seller has any ability to retaliate against a negative comment that a buyer may choose to make. Each transaction a buyer completes will always result in a feedback based solely on their payment record, without the typical "I'll leave you a positive when you leave me one" game.

*****************************************

They honestly aren't doing bad with their auctions from what I've seen. They probably ARE making as much if not more than they did with Ebay.

Here's one example:
http://www.bidtopia.com/detail.aspx?id=204878

assuming it is indeed a Leupold scope that sells for $874.99 on optic planet the $585.00 Bidtopia got for is not half bad for not being on Ebay.

Personally I wouldn't feel real comfortable bidding that high on something from Bidtopia aka Bargainland but I guess with a CC card you'd be pretty safe.

Nice site, but not enough items to maintain a steady customer base.

I disagree. They took their Bargainland steady customer base with them when they opened their own site.

GG:

The sad reality is that the reason feeBay has a 100% monopoly on the obline auction biz is because Mr. John Q. Public, who doesn't know a computer from a dildo, KNOWS the brand-name: eBay!

The ONLY company with such POSITIVE name recognition is, of course: GOOGLE

eBay will LISTEN to us peons only if:

1) GOOGLE opens an auction site.../or/

2) Enough sellers LEAVE that WALL STREET squeals.../or/

3) The US DEPT OF JUSTICE brings prosecution against feeBay under ANTI-TRUST laws...If MA BELL was a monopoly, what do ya call feeBay?

Sadly, I don't forsee ANY of the above happening anytime soon...

bargainland started bidtopia when ebay NARu's their account.

They have been slow to adding sellers. There are about a dozen sellers on the site, I think.
