I have a 1909 book "Chatterbox" that has fallen apart, but there are many very interesting illustrations that I think might sell?

Any pointer you wish to share?

WHERE to list?

Obviously, my scanner's "DE-SCREENING" function doesn't work to hot!

Can anybody recommend a better software program for B&W items that show a moire pattern after scanning?

THANKS EVERYBODY!

Tom, What graphics program do you have? Do you have Photoshop Elements? Not sure if it has the same filters that the full Photoshop version has but in the full version you can use "Filters"/"Noise/"Despeckle" to improve moire. Also most scanner software has a preset for printed matter that will descreen.

There are several tricks I used with my students in the early days of computer graphics (1980s or the prehistoric period). Scan at a dpi that is not an even multiple of your final size. for example if you want 72 dpi scan at an odd number like 99 and then downsize. It also helps with some printed material if you put the copy at an angle on the scanner then rotate it in your graphics program. If all else fails scan at a larger size than you need them apply a slight Gaussian blur then downsize.

The Chatterbox graphics are great. Good luck with your scanning.

WHERE IS THE BEST CATEGORY TO LIST THESE?

And: what is a normal & reasonable starting bid?

THANKS ALL!

Glad it helped. I'll leave advice on category to people who list more than I do. I do feel a Title with good keywords is more important than category.

Tom, I have an 1881 edition of "Chatterbox" that I found at a book sale last summer here in Maine. I think I paid about a dollar for the book. The color frontispiece is gorgeous, and so are your illustrations.

Perhaps the illustration of the sailor getting a shoe shine could be listed under "Collectibles....Militaria." Hopefully, there is a "Navy" sub-heading....I believe the sailor is British.

On another note, Tom, how do you get your images to appear in your Vendio threads?
You do a good job.

Wish I could help but I only know postcards. Perhaps Beth can help when she is recouped from surgery.

Well I go for surgery Monday so am still here today. The best advice I can give you is to go to this seller: chroniclesofhistory.

Chronicles of HIstory used to be Historybytes. He has a review: From Zero Feedback to $1000 in 30 Days that is great about selling ephemera

And I use his listings to help me price and place my articles and illustrations.

From my experience you want to list artist, topic and content. If you still have the Table of Contents for this Chatterbox it will list the illustrator for the sailor picture. If it is part of an article/story you might want to include that as collectors like to buy the entire story/article when possible.

Good luck!
Beth

Oh, GEEZ! Beth!

GOOD LUCK with SURGERY...

Ralphie sends a BIG WET SLOBBERY BT SMOOCH yer way in lieu of a card, as he sometimes is clumsey with pen&ink...

BTW: since yer peepers are a'peeping here, could you try and read this calling card?

I think it's a guy, but it seems a bit fey for a man?

Tom: I've had some success in the past by listing in the crafts/decoupage category for a book like yours.

If a book with great art features nursery rhymes, babies, etc., I list in a category that expectant parents might be looking at. I describe the art as frameable decor.

And of course, as suggested here, if the artist's name is given, put that in the title.
