OK experts...this may be a stupid question but is there a sure-fire way to distinguish between plastic and glass? I've got an old necklace with purple hearts dangling from it. I really can't tell if these are plastic or glass. Would the "hot pin" trick work? I tried clicking one against my tooth and clicking it with other objects but am befuddled. I'd hate to say "glass" if, in fact, they're plastic. Any "tricks of the trade" will be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

blueyes - there is no such thing as a "stupid question" IMO. We all ask questions on EO and the answers from knowledgeable people benefit not only you but others on the board. So ask away anytime.

Thanks for the suggestion, zippy...I'll give that a try. Thanks too, neil, for the kind words. I guess I thought figuring out the difference between glass and plastic would be pretty simple...until I tried! I am contnually amazed at the collective wisdom and expertise (and willingness to share)of fellow Vendionians...Thanks again!

I usually bang my gold wedding ring on it--usually a dead giveaway. That metal-on-glass sound is very different from metal-on-plastic.

blueyes29,glass should make a very distinct click or clack on your teeth, plastic will be much duller. I am sure you have something that is plastic like a glass or?? Give it a try, a plastic glass-a glass glass.
Should not be a problem in telling which is which. The glass is much more crisp, the plastic is a more dull sound or feel
