Me & Ralphie have a TON of these "artsey-fahtsey" cards...

Are they worth listing?

Or are they common? List as LOTS?

Is MUSEUM important? Or ARTIST?

Also, we have a set of 1950's RPPC's of PARISIAN SCENES -- plan on listing as a SET, or, are they a waste of listing fees?

THANKS ALL FOR EVERY BIT OF HELP!

Tom & Toulouse LaRalph

I have some too but never do very well with them. I think the Sborgi ones are especially beautiful. Jane (pixiamom) has good luck with the Stengel ones. She has been busy today but hopefully will check in later.

I love these kind of cards- Sborgi even more than Stengel (check to see if it has gilt edges). Not a high-sell through rate, you might want to wait until gallery is free or list them directly to your store. There are collectors out there- especially in Europe. I try to get the publisher's name, title (sometimes I shorten it) and artist. Condition can be important - Id list only the ones in good shape. Like other view collectors, I used to put up my nose at these, but they are so well made with exquisite colors. Please don't list them in lots. RPPC Paris could do well, depends on the scene. Do you know the photographer? - Frenchies especially love the Eiffel Tower.

ALL my artsey ones are in near-mint to MINT BRAND NEW (1918!) condition! So, that's no problem...So, ya think they might do better in RALPHIE'S EMPORIUM?

The FRENCH cards (5) are all RPPC's by: EDITIONS CHANTAL -- is that a GOOD phototog?

#405 E-Tower
#474 Place Vendome
#522 LeConclergerie et la Seine
#446 Arc de Triumphe
#509 Promenade sous les Ponts

THANKS ALL!

Hey, Guys!

Have you ever heard of a PENNSYLVANIA PHOTOGRAPHER named:

Clyde Laughlin?

Signature Mark = INITIALS CL

It appears one of my cards is by him, and I'm getting a ton of interest in the card!

WooHoo?

Hello, all ye POSTCARD EXPERTS?

Can you help DATE the FRENCHIE cards?

The cars look 30's, but that CHANTAL logo looks much newer?

Also, should sell individually? Or as a SET?

I would guess circa 1950 because of the deckled edge. Edited to add - I meant eBay store. Do you still have one?

I would not call that edge "deckled" - that one is more scalloped. Deckled is more irregular,

Definitions of deckled edge on the Web:

* The rough uneven edges naturally present in early handmade papers, generally observed in newspapers and magazines printed before about 1830. ...
www.historicpages.com/glossary.htm

* The ragged edge found on hand made papers. Some prints are made on such paper.

Congrats Tom! That's a great card! I sure don't see the photographer's initials there either but I doubt that that is the reason it has been bid up.

Don't you love the bidding wars? Just like the good ol' days! Sometimes the strangest cards get bid up.

I have a chrome postcard of a WWII war dog cemetery in Guam bid up to over $20 with days to go. I thought it was kind of an unusual topic so I listed it. I love it when the hunches work out.

It is a great card. When I first started out, I avoided highway cards because I found them boring. After I joined my postcard club, I found there were several serious local highway collectors, one who just recently retired from the state highway department. The Pennsylvania turnpike is very nostalgic to many people, a real photo of the construction of one of its tunnels is a real find. The fact that the photographer is unknown won't hurt its value - it might just help it because it implies that the card was not mass-produced. Edited to add: on your first artsy-fartsy card, make sure you include the word fan in the title. There are a few collectors of fan postcards out there, although they don't come out often.

Edited again to add, Neglus, check out the eBay postcard auctions mentioning deckled:

When you can find post cards from some of the prisons, they are highly collected.
