I still do also but not like it was in 1998 when I first started, now it buys me lunch out and a few other things. Sure not like it was and I am thinking of trying a different venue of selling

nope... not at all

But, ever since I started up my own website... I actually get excited again! Not only is there more pride and satisfaction working for myself... I'm making more money too! I can finally focus on building MY business... rather than worry about how eBay's trying to build theirs. Selling can still be fun and exciting... as long as eBay's out of the picture!

I love selling on eBay. I have always loved it, even when it brought difficult, obnoxious (and in one care) murderous people into my life.

Life is too short to be doing something you don't love.

Yup. Love it. No where else could I do what I do here -- and I'd rather sit at home in comfort and be aggravated, than at an expensive show and be aggravated.

Agree with fluff; if you wake up and the thought of doing what you're going to be doing that day makes you want to throw up, it's time to make a change. Life IS short, make the most of every minute.

sometimes I still enjoy selling on eBaY. I still get a kick out of selling on my secondary id ~ used stuff thats just money found in the closet!
For the p[ast few years, I've enjoyed the opportunities eBaY gives me, more than the thrill of the auctions. I work in my sweats, I'm around for my kids when they come home from school, I have the time to watch my boys in their various sports activities. When one of the girls get sick (twins), I dont have to ask my boss if it is okay to leave ~ I can follow my heart and fulfill my families needs.
eBaY allows me to be the Mom that is around to carpool all of the 'other' kids ~ I get to know my sons friends, to cheer them on, to share their heartbreaks and dreams. I'm the 'cool mom' ~ the mom that listens without judging. I've earned their trust. I can only hope they turn to me when if they need to ~ it's not easy being a teenager.
So sometimes I enjoy eBaY. Mostly I just enjoy my life.

I still enjoy MOST of it. I do get burned out from time to time - but most of the time I do still like it. I wasn't here in 1998 so I guess I didn't know eBay in the "Golden Era". I started selling about this time of year in 2002 (yikes! That would make it 6 years).

I just finished selling a load of pins that were left over from Athens and Torino. I put up 40 auctions and sold 28 items (not bad), and totaled over $400. That is money I will need for Beijing, so that was good. I enjoy watching my friends bid (I personally know about 50% of my bidders). I enjoy the excitement of not knowing what I'll get (I sold one pin for $35... I was hoping to get $5). I have a new printer/scanner, so I enjoy scanning now a LOT more (very efficient software).

Mostly, I like shopping on Ebay for items that are not listed right, and then flipping those items for a quick 300% profit.

Don't get me wrong. The best time was in 1997, or 1998. I had 100% sell through. Everything sold for 200% or more of what I could sell it for locally, all in all it was a LOT more fun. Still, now that I am down to an auction every month or two... It is fun. It's when I do 150 a day right after the Olympics that it can be a bit of a grind.

I still enjoy it and I'm trying to dump the other job down to a couple days a week. To get the sales you have to be able to add new items everyday and thats hard working 6 days a week.

Just wanted to let you know about this new website that pays us up to 36% of the seller's fees whenever we buy something on eBay.

We can also get cash back at other retailers and earn extra cash when other people shop.

Just use the link below to check it out and let me know what you think!

I still enjoy it, although I mostly just sell store items now, and that is not nearly as exciting as seeing those bids go up.

In 1998, when I started selling on ebay, I could hardly sleep, I would check my auctions and would see new bids, multiple bids, etc...there wasn't as much competition back then and it was really exciting for me. I rarely sell on ebay anymore (cheap listing days - but not all of them). It isn't the same thrill for me. I do get excited when I have a sale on ecrater and felt that way about Yahoo, also. Yahoo back then was fun too! The items I sell are lower priced items and so with the fee increases and paypal fees, I don't make enough on ebay to justify my sales. I don't want to give it up, so I list occasionally there and on ecrater. I am one of those hoping and wishing that Google will someday start up an auction site. Then I would be giddy all over again!

I still wnjoy it, I have 'met' some very nice people along the way. It is still fun to check to see how bidding is going (I have been addicted to eBay since 1998) and really fun when some 'ordinary' item sells for a lot more than I thought it would.

Zoomin,
That was beautiful. You sound like a wonderful mom. Your kids really are lucky to have you.

As a Dad, I do eBay at home for the same reasons. I want to be flexible for my 3 kids and the crazy schedule that life provides for us all.

Our kids will only be young and crazy about us for a few years. Soon they will move on, even when we don't want them to. So I too want to be there for them whenever I can.

Thanks for the reminder of what's important. All the best to you.

been on here since '98...still LOVE IT...does have bad days every now and then. I recently added some auctions and within minutes...I was told from another "ebayer"....YOU TRYING TO GET RICH & GET A LIFE, I SELL THESE FOR 1/2 THAT PRICE.

So tempted to send them back a message, that a LARGE % of the items are selling at 10 times what he sells them for. But I didn't, because I am happy knowing that people WORLDWIDE on here will BUY ANYTHING! (even twigs from my backyard).

In '98, I worked retail management(70-90hrs/wk)...FOR WHAT?...well...three years ago, I was able to tell the CORPORATE "people"...take this job and shove it! Now, EBAY/AMAZON/FLEA MARKETS/YARDSALES is a career and hobby. I don't have to worry about employees calling in sick, not being able to get vacation because of NO coverage, payroll cuts, inflated budget goals, etc. THOSE DAYS ARE GONE!

My biggest problem now is if I hit my boss side-the-head, I end up with a headache all day. MAJOR BENEFIT....

MY FAMILY....church - scouts - baseball - basketball - camping - fishing - vacations - cooking - etc. NOW I can do these 100% of the time. Wife loves to have dinner on the table when she gets home every night. I will never look back, I may have to expand AMAZON or even create the eCrater account or others. But I know the internet shopping is not going to end anytime soon, especially with gas prices($3.25 and climbing here). So, I gotta get going, it is starting to get warm again here and I know I have a lawn mower buried in the garage somewhere!!

Does anyone enjoy selling on ebay?

I agree with many of the early posters that it was much more fun in the early days. What keeps me going now is the other sites. Once you get going, it get's into your blood. I was on Yahoo in the early days as well, amongst others. If eBay were the only game in town, I clearly would have given up by now.

Yup. Though not as many times as eBay has tried to leave ME. (Three, so far.)

Thanks for the flashback, though. I really enjoyed looking back at where the business was in 2003. I have learned a huge amount since then.

I was told from another "ebayer"....YOU TRYING TO GET RICH & GET A LIFE, I SELL THESE FOR 1/2 THAT PRICE.

Man, I could do four paragraphs on that alone.

What people like your critic don't understand is that high-end stores take the same pair of jeans sold at Wal-Mart for $11.49, slap a fancy brand name on 'em, put 'em in a store in an upscale shopping district, and sell them for $99.99. Same pair of jeans.

The other thing he doesn't understand is that if you can successfully sell them for twice what he's charging, you're a smart seller and he's a dummy for leaving money on the table.

I have seen silk blouse sold for 125 dollars in NYC Manhattan store in the late 80s,the same blouse sold for 27.95 in Forest Hills,Queens where I lived, the only difference was the MOP buttons on the sleeves.
If you must have the MOP buttons, you can always go to the store and buy them and sew them on yourself for a savings of almost 100 dollars.
PS I like selling on the internet, whether it is Ebay,AMZN,Yahoo,Overstock or Half,it makes me happy someone wants to buy from me!

Been on Ebay since 1998, seen the good times. The present has been the worst, the money is just not there anymore. There still nice customers. But there is more assholes, customers now then ever before. And the biggest problem is Ebay and there dumb ass rules, that is not for the seller. The times are changing and not for the better.

I still enjoy it or I wouldn't be doing it. I don't enjoy it as much as I did 5 or 6
years ago but I am making more money.
The truth is that I can't think of another job that I would enjoy as much, with as much freedom.

hwahwa - "PS I like selling on the internet, whether it is Ebay,AMZN,Yahoo,Overstock or Half,it makes me happy someone wants to buy from me!"

I'll agree with hwahwa with some exceptions. I doubt that I will ever sell on Amazon, Yahho, Overstock or Half.com.

I view selling through my stores at ebay and Vendio as nothing more than having an independent location and a second store located at a mall. Of course, the mall is one of the largest in the world. And, I am doing business there. I am considering listing items at a specialty site such as stampwants.com in the future.

I doubt that I will be listing at ecrater or any such site in the future, as I need an accurate inventory count, and can't play that inventory game that many do.

Back in 1998 there were only a few of us that sold ads: 247, deco dog, me, a couple of others. We could get outrageous prices and had fabulous sell through. I remember selling a little Ivory soap ad for $100. Now not so much.

I just get up everyday ready to sell. My most favorite part is finding and listing. And then interacting with customers who are excited at finding their relatives or family business in an ad.

So, yes I do enjoy selling on ebay, vendio and ecrater. I still get excited every morning opening the old g-mail and find out what happened while I was sound asleep.
