Has eBay changed the it's BIN policy recently? I had a bid placed on one of my auctions last night and I noticed the BIN option remained visible. I figured it was a glitch. This morning, the item was purchased with BIN. There was no reserve price on this particular auction, so I know of no reason why the BIN option would still be available after a bid is placed unless something has changed at eBay I don't know about. Actually, I like it and I hope it's not a glitch =)

I notice this a few weeks ago too. I recall someone posted that ebay had this change on the way so I guess it's here.
I didn't like it - wish you could opt out.

So often, a bidder will email asking what the BIN is and I'd have to explain to them that the BIN is no longer an option after the first bid is placed. I've always thought that if it was still an option, they'd use it. Then again, if you've got quite a few bidders and it gets close to the BIN price, someone will opt for it and the bidding stops...who knows how much higher it may have been bid up. I've had items go way beyond my original BIN price, to my surprise and delight. There are definitely pros and cons to it. I was not aware that eBay had made this change.

I had this happen too. Ebay should remove the BIN after the bidding reaches 75% of the BIN price. I don't know if they have something in place for this or if this was a fluke b/c some of my auctions will show the BIN after a bid and others won't.

It depends on the category and the price threshold.

"The following categories will have Longer Lasting BIN w.e.f 10/17/2007 with a price threshold of 50%.

1. Parts & Accessories (eBay Motors)
2. Tickets
3. Clothing, Shoes & Accessories
4. Cell Phones & PDAs

Price Threshold: 50%
i.e. The BIN option will be available on an item till the current bid reaches or exceeds 50% of the BIN price.

Note: For reserve price auctions, the Buy it Now option will continue to be available till the reserve price is met. The price threshold is only applicable once the reserve has been met or exceeded."

Thanks for the info, zippy2dah. That's very interesting. I can't believe this has been in effect since October and this is the first I've experienced it, although I haven't been listing nearly as much on eBay as I used to. I've been focusing more on my eCrater store and my eBay affiliate stores instead.
