You've GOT to be kidding... wouldn't a better solution be to get rid of all the stupid different country sites... include everything in ONE central site... and improve the location search engine? Sheesh... talk about STUPID.

I get free inclusion to any countries I want through Google AdWords when I'm advertising for my website. And anyone in the world can go to my website and shop. eBay needs to get a grip on things. They're using the shotgun approach to fixing their site again... and I don't think they even realize how much collateral damage they cause....

As I said in a pryor post an eBay rep told a """"friend""" (hehehe)
"in a round about way" perhaps rethinking international sales may be wise. The dinging on DSR and the upcoming price change and more ...

They cant have just one site, each site shows its items in local currency.
To show every item in multiple currencies can be a nuisance.

I think I just figured out the real reason... it's to get around US antitrust laws in requiring Paypal. Here's how I think it's going to roll out.

1) Ebay requires Paypal on ebay.uk (already done)

2) Ebay WANTS to require Paypal on US.. but can't because of violation of Sherman anti-trust laws with tying agreements...

3) Ebay releases international "upgrade" in guise of paid upgrade.

4) Several months later, Ebay announces how successful their international upgrade was and announces that they will make it the default selection for all auction listings (may even reduce the price, but probably won't make it free)

5) Anyone listing on eBay US and not using Paypal will now get a notice... your item can not be listed on eBay UK because you are not using Paypal. Please change your payment options.

Slick and disgusting way to try to skirt US antitrust laws. I hope I'm wrong... but I doubt it. Wait a year and see if I was right. And even if I'm not... just the fact that we're thinking about it tells you how trustful we are of eBay. I'm much happier with my own website. Ebay is one partner you just can't afford to trust any more.

Ebay is better off starting another site for low priced items,I dont mean authentic Tiffancy lamp with starting bid of 99 cents,I mean low priced items which will end at low price .

I thought we already had exposure to International sites. What is "new and exciting", not a free increase as far as I am concerned. Do you think this will apply to store items? If so, I will be changing from Worldwide, certainly not worth the increase.

This new feature will have your item listed on UK site,so if someone just stroll down the category list,he will see your item as if it is listed by the local seller.
If he does a search for UK items only, yours will show up as well.
Thats what I interpret it to be,may be some one can shed more light .
(Right now I have UK bidders bidding on my items listed on EBAY-USA,they know the greenback is low vis a vis their pound,so they just do a worldwide search).
This feature will be seen by UK bidders who just stay on UK site.
This is not a bad feature for those sellers who think their items appeal to overseas bidders.
EBAY is right, the overseas bidders often bid higher.

All the more reason for me not to sell internationally. I don't want to and I sure don't want to pay extra for the hassle.

Won't we be near the bottom of the search lists when you factor in the shipping + price for total cost?

Good question.
But the UK site and other sites are much smaller than ours.
Their sellers dont just keep listing the same item multiple times!

The International buyers that want to buy on the US site they are already coming to the US site, so why pay more to list in the International site.

I am really glad I started my ecrater webstore a while back. Now that I have a better customer base their, it won't hurt as much when I quit checking the international box on ebay. I will still sell internationally, but they are going to have to search harder for the items as I refuse to pay eBay extra for something that should be included in the basic listing price in the first place.

Dang it, I'm going to have to pay the extra charge. International buyers represent 25% (at least) of my sales and are not restricted to international cards - many buy US, holiday, greeting and topical cards. I would hope that for 10 cents I will get increased visibility to Germany, France, Italy, the Benelux countries and other countries as well.

Buyers have been finding us ok and I am hoping they will still make the effort. Call me a cynic, but do you think eBay has been giving us extra exposure outside the US so they can sucker us into this fee increase?

If the fee would bring MORE sales than I currently have I would consider paying it, but if it's the same, then forget it.

Pixia - I think at first the exposure is UK only or am I reading it wrong? Probably charge more $ as they add extra countries...you can't tell me this was planned! They are cashing in on the weak US $.

I'm like others here - they have been finding our items so maybe they will continue to find us.
I do sell a lot of items internationally but I still don't know if I want to pay extra for it.
There goes that gallery free fee that we just got!!!!! I just knew that ebay would find a way to get it back!!!

I actually might use this for some items. Over the years, there are certain types of ceramic items I listed that always went to UK/AUS bidders. I think the really astute buyers will search the US site, but perhaps I am missing more casual UK browsers.

I do not believe that the announcement was clear.

It appears that we will still be able to list our items on ebay.com and designate that we ship globally. The upgrade is a substitute for listing an item on both ebay.com and ebay.co.uk. If so, there would be a savings in listing fees.

Are all of you reading this the same? Or, am I standing in line at the gas station store buying beer in my pajamas? I think I forgot my slippers ...

I wonder if store items would be included? Oh boy, I forgot my wallet at home ...

Yes,there will be a saving in listing fee,for an extra dime, your item will show up on both sites.
Now,take ivory item,US sellers are banned to export the item,so when we try to list in both places,EBay will throw up a message saying no .

I sent an email to eBay yesterday because I was not sure what they were saying in the announcement, I think their reply makes it much clearer.

You can choose World Wide Shipping or other
international shipping options that include the UK. In this scenario,
their items only show up on eBay.co.uk in the few cases:

A) when buyers specifically expand the scope of their search to include
international items,
B) when a search returns too few items, an international module appears
in search results.

Or, they can create a separate listing on eBay.co.uk (and pay all the
same fees that other sellers pay to list there).

Basically, what this means is that previously, a bidder in the UK had to
choose to view International Items for sale in order to see and bid on
the item you were selling, and then, could only find it if you agreed to
ship to the UK.

eBay is now giving sellers an option, for a minimal price, to have their
items appear in standard search results on the UK site just like they
appear in searches on www.ebay.ca and www.ebay.com.

1. Yes, you can list on www.ebay.ca and still sell to the US at no
additional cost. Selling to the US hasn't changed at all and as long as
you state that you'll ship your items to the US then your items will be
completely searchable, just as they've always been. This change is for
international destinations other than the US. It will eventually include
all other eBay sites but for now it just includes the UK and the UK
site, www.ebay.co.uk.

2. The fees eBay will charge for this service are optional. If you would
like to list your Auction Items, Store Inventory Items and Fixed Price
Items the way you always have, then you'll see no fee increase at all.
However, eBay is going to give you the option to make it easier for a UK
member to find your items on the UK site by having them show up in
general search results for a small fee.

3. What makes this feature desirable in eBay's eyes is that right now,
if you list an item for International sale, it only appears in search
results on the UK site if the buyer specifically states they wish to
also find international items. By paying the optional fee, your item
will appear in standard search results pages on the UK site without the
UK member having to choose to see International items. So, you can see
how this could certainly broaden the number of members who are seeing
your item for sale.

I hope this has helped answer your questions and helps explain what the
new International Site Visibility optional fees are for.

Barron's hosted a round table of institutional managers last year and they all agreed the British pound is over valued, and due for a fall.
For years, they dont buy from us and now they buy and buy,so when their pounds drop in value, will they keep on buying from us?

I would gladly pay a dime for international coverage. Unfortunately, about 10% of my sales are in Norway. Another 10% is in Japan. Another 10% is in Greece. Another 10% is outside the U.S., but not in any of those countries. I would GLADLY pay $.10 for real international coverage.

Oh well. I am guessing it will be $.10 each.
