I choose to display the shipping distance on my search results page. I noticed the distance has been way out of whack for a few days. Checking into it further, I found that my primary shipping address was changed to a name I don't recognize with an address in Georgia!

Wouldn't you know this was during the week I bought like crazy on eBay. I called eBay and they weren't helpful. I did an unsuccessful search by name and city on www.switchboard, then had luck doing a reverse search by address.

I called the people and they were very nice - the original name I had sold the house 2 years ago. I determined that the only affected orders were ones that ended on the last day of the sale. One package arrived today and when they receive all of them, they will forward them to me. I think this fiasco is due to something out of whack in eBay's database.

Not quite understand what you are saying?
Do you mean you sold your house in Georgia 2 years ago and Ebay has this address as your current primary shipping address and the owner has received some of your packages you bought on Ebay?
Sounds like Ebay has some problem with its database and did a restore, taking a backup file and restore it on its database, and this backup file goes way back!
Online data bases should be backup every night,if they have to go so far back to a file which has your old address, then Ebay must have experienced serious problem.
Another scenario -several years ago, someone may have hacked into my Ebay account and changed my shipping address ,fortunately I always paid with Paypal and sellers ship to my PAYPAL confirmed address.

No, a stranger sold his house two years ago. Somehow, his old address showed up as my primary shipping address. I have not moved or changed anything.

may be your account was hacked??
Ebay,Paypal at one time use contract workers to do IT work such as programming(they may still do so now).
On Yahoo shopping,I remember there is this store which shipped a plasma Tv to an empty house which was just sold, either the original owner bought the tv set and have it shipped to the house, and took it with him when he moved or some squatter bought the tv set using his credit card.
AMEX sided with the buyer and the store lost .
It gets worse in apt complex when old tennant moved out and the new one moves in ,the old phone was not disconnected, and the new tennant received credit card solicitations meant for the old tennant, applied for it over the phone and start shopping.
Another trick was to stand by the door and pretend to be the owner of the house/apt unit.
When I wqs living in an apt complex,I was outside my apt and getting to leave ,an USPS carrier has an intl express package for me,he asked me to insert the door key and open the door to prove I live there!

Come to think of it,AMEX has a reputation of siding with its members when it comes to a dispute,I have heard cases of store owners losing their shirt, one case was an antique storeowner in New Orleans who sold a few thousand dollars worth of antiques to a lady, her husband called AMEX and said they are going through a divorce and he is no longer responsible for her charges.

Check your name & address in your Ebay personal information. I just edited it this past week where there are now 3 different address to modify.
Registration Address
Payment Address
Primary shipping Address.
Needless to say, I am not thrill with this new feature.
