This was in our newspaper and I thought perhaps, someone would like to help this elementary student out.

To the Editor:
My second grade class of Furry Elementary School is learning about the United States. I need your help with a special project we are doing called “Picture America.” We are trying to collect postcards from each state. If you would like to help me with this class project, please send me a postcard showing an interest or important feature of your state. Thank you for helping me.

Picture America
In the Letters to the Editor section, we don't print open letters. But I thought this blog space might be OK for this letter from a second-grade little girl in Sandusky, Ohio.
"Dear residents of California,
My second-grade class at Furry Elementary School is learning about the United States. I need your help with a special project we are doing called Picture America. We are trying to collect postcards from each state. If you would like to help me with this class project please send me a postcard showing an interesting or important feature of your state. Thank you for helping me.
Sincerely,
Raven Ryan

Raven's letter was accompanied by a letter from Kelley A. Sumner, her teacher. Sumner wrote: "This puts a personal touch to our geography studies, lets students practice letter writing, and hopefully allows them to receive personal mail, which they love!"
And in case anyone is worried that I'm broadcasting this little girl's address all over the blogosphere, the address is for her school, not her home. I think it'd be cool for Raven to get some mail from other places to add to their class project.

Teachers do what works. They probably do the same project every year.
That's how it was when my kid was in elementary school.
Second grade was her Beatrix Potter year. The kids spent three months reading her books over and over and drawing little pictures and writing little stories and decorating the room, etc.
My kid still hates those books but I'm happy because she did learn how to write in complete sentences that year.

Hi Cheryl, no, currently I live in Florida and Idaho. This was in our weekly paper that just came out today (Idaho).
I know the project is not over, just thought some of you would like to help. Its not a snope thing, the editor checks things out before he allows them to be printed.
Someone send us some rain...Florida is burning up, 180 fires in the state and no rain in sight.
