Hi All!
Calling all SILVER experts!
The KIND & GENEROUS friend also gave us some SPOONS!
So, we needeth a CRASH COURSE!
Should I polish them? I did this one, but then said WHOA! Maybe I screwed up?
Also, does anybody recognize the BACK-STAMP?
There is the letter "W" next to a 2-HEADED HORSE where it says: "STERLING"
Course Ralphie wants to form a TWO-PERSON Spoon-Band and do covers of his favorite groups (Mrs Miller; Whistling Jack; Lulu, and, OF COURSE: 3-DOG NIGHT), but I'm leary of his musical prowess?
As always: THANKS! EVERYBODY!

Tom,
Polishing is fine. Made by Whiting.
I like to lightly polish so that design is highlighted with some tarnish in the low spots. Makes it easier to photograph.

I know nothing about silver but I have been to Newton, Jasper County, Iowa if it helps.

Tom - Tarnish will eventually damage silver and it should be removed. Use a jeweler's cloth rather than any of the harsh polishing compounds.

Don't know anything about silver. I guess you know that the spoon is for the Methodist Episcopal Church in (here is where it gets interesting) Iowa or Illinois or Indiana! Why would three states starting with an "I" have a Jasper County with a Newton in it?
I have this compulsion to Google everything I see. Googleitis maybe?
Good luck with your research.

just never know.. Jasper County or Newton County....back in 1935 BEFORE the members started giving generous offerings and having the weekly bingo games each Sunday, the church may have looked a little like this;

Jasper Methodist Church in Jasper (Newton County); before 1935.

Yes could be Jasper, Newton County. Depends if you read across or up and down.

What are the odds that there was another church with the same unusual layout. The extra windows could have been added when the church was expanded, or -- embelished by artist who did the spoon.
