Forget everything you've read about the new links policy. It's all been called off:

***A Message from John McDonald – Links Policy News for Sellers***

July 31, 2008 | 01:21PM PST/PT

Hello everyone…Back in May, I announced a number of important policy changes for sellers. One of the policies I mentioned was an update to our Links Policy which governs the types of links that can be included in a listing. Our Links Policy is intended to increase safety and preserve the buying experience.

After my announcement, we received questions and concerns from sellers about this change. At eBay Live!, our staff made it clear we would be going back to reconsider some aspects of the policy around how third-party links would be treated.

As promised, we’ve been reviewing all the different types of situations that our sellers have brought to our attention, and we’ve been meeting with additional stakeholders to understand how our policy update would impact them. After this additional research and discussion, we’ve decided to leave our Links Policy as it was before my May announcement. There will be no Links Policy updates at this time. (Please read the Links Policy for more information.)

I want to thank our sellers for your support and patience around this matter.

Sincerely,

John McDonald
Senior Director, Trust & Safety

This message was updated to clarify that the existing Links Policy published in Help prior to May will remain unchanged.
It looked like she had that dreaded neurological disorder that lets you browse and bid on eBay all day long but won't let you push the "Pay" button.

Wonder when the announcement about backing away from Finding 2.0 will come out? Will anyone be around to read it?

I'm not sure why anyone would want to commit to selling on eBay as a full-time seller any more. You just can't trust them, or build any type of long-term business plan. I really feel for any of you that spent valuable time revising your listings based on eBay's previous announcement. If you haven't started looking for other places to take your business... start looking now!

"I want to thank our sellers for your support and patience around this matter"

That's a lousy excuse for an apology.

I'm happy that someone is listening though. First the neutral as negative reversal and now this. I too wonder what is next.

Hopefully the no negatives for buyers. But I'm not going to hold my breath.

Eauction said it all - you can't have any long term plan on Ebay - with the new search status crap, you can't even plan a day in advance on how many listings to run, because at any minute your status in the search can go from raised to lowered - it happened to me.

After launching a buttload of auctions, within 24 hours I ended up lowered in the searches. You cannot run a business like that!

I thought it was a war on the third world .... or links ... or sellers making a buck ... or something

Am I reading too much in this or has the disruptive change policy resulted in more than anticipated buyers and sellers leaving eBay and they are back pedaling on the announced changes that haven't been implemented?
