I just heard about ebays new rules that will go into effect Oct. I never belived in the Paypal system, plus I heard plenty of Paypal nightmares from other ebayers. I had enough of Ebay changing the feedback system and there rules. I have no control over the buyer if he does not like the item. I sell Antiques and Junk, can anyone recommend a new site that I can move on to that does not have dumb rules like ebay. HELP!!!!

other sites...many out there...

what some consider #2 and #3 are;

ioffer at 5.5 million auctions
ecrater at 1.5 million auctions

traffic slow on both...but I think eBay just opened a few more ON RAMPS to these sites with the changes they are making.

ioffer can move your items from ebay to their site with ONE CLICK(mr grabber)...vendio templates are a little screwy but product is transferred.

either site does not have the fees ebay does.

Sorry to see you go. Fewer collectible sellers on eBay = fewer shoppers for the rest of us. I doubt if the buyers who pay by check and MO will stick around. How depressing!

Number of auctions on other sites is not something you can measure them by. They both got really populated the last time ebay tinkered with things - the question is have the customers followed? My guess is that if you ask 100 ebay buyers if they have ever heard of ecrater or ioffer, a very strong majority would say no.

On the positive side, I think most people who went to those sites were very low volume sellers, so their expectations probably aren't that high.

The problem is the economy, people losing home, job and watching their stocks and bonds falling in value.
If you cant sell on a site like Ebay,I doubt you will do well on other sites.
Why not just hunker down and spend time stocking up,learn to take better pictures,or just read a book and relax.

I have a lot of customers that send a check or money order. I will consider those customers lost. I take PayPal, but it's not what I would consider the best choice. Look into getting a merchant account. Really shop around, though, or you could get good and stuck!

If a buyer emails you asking if you will take a MO or check can't you say Yes? Or does ebay expect you to say NO and send your buyer away.

I only accept PP but I do get lots of buyers emailing me asking if I would take a MO and I say yes.

Considering ebay stance lately - are they really our customers or are they ebay's?

IMO, we have the product, take pictures, write a description, handle the money, pack and ship the item, etc...Ebay is nothing more than a newspaper ad, but they believe that they control all aspects of this process. It is the sellers who have allowed them to get this "handle" on us? At what point does their control on us, cease? My answer is that I have increasingly shifted my focus, I have stuff on ecrater (not doing near as well as I did last year - and still no comparison to ebay - but no cost and few rules), otherwise I have stopped buying stuff to sell online because it is not the same game as it was when I started in 1998 (and it isn't as much fun, either). It certainly doesn't feel like I am working for myself when I have to live by all of the latest stupid rules, fees, feedback quota, payment choices, etc...

EBAY has so many rules is because it allows anyone everyone to sell on its venue.

I started selling on Ebay to become self-employed - I'm not self-employed, I work for Ebay - and they are basically firing their antique dealers with their restructuring.

Hello tonimar1,

"If a buyer emails you asking if you will take a MO or check can't you say Yes? Or does ebay expect you to say NO and send your buyer away."

From the posts by eBay employees that I have read on their board, the answer to this question is "Yes". If the buyer specifically requests that you accept a check or money order, then eBay will allow this. However, they have also stated that if you encourage check or money order payments, or discourage PayPal/credit card payments in any way, then there will be consequences (and that they will be monitoring for this).

Regards,
Nathan
