Are we dealing with Buyer's Remorse, the Credit Crunch or just a bunch of thieves?
I recently ran a few low end sales to test the waters after all the recent changes at ebay.
I listed 13 pieces 10/19. 9 sold on 10/26. That seemed like a pretty good sell thru for some low end pottery that I had considered putting in a garage sale. The sale prices were low but better than yard sale price.
The really interesting (and sad) part is how the transactions are shaping up. 1 of the 9 was a non-payer. Not a problem, I have already filed and received my fees.
What I can't understand is the 2 who paid and have now filed PayPal and ebay claims stating that they had not bid on the items. Problems with 3 out of 9 transactions. Not a good ratio.
One of the buyers filed a credit card chargeback claiming he did not make the purchase. PayPal has opened a dispute and is currently holding my funds while they review the transaction.
I have sent PayPal the DC link showing the item as delivered so I should be covered by Seller Protection. This buyer has a 361 feedback and has bid on 63 items in the last 30 days. The PayPal transaction shows him as an un-registered user. Must be PayPal unregistered because his ebay account is still active and has recent activity. This transaction is showing that it is covered by Seller Protection.
The other buyer has filed an ebay claim. stating that someone was using her account to bid on items without her permission. Ebay pulled my listing and also some others that I had noticed she had won the week she won mine. (I sometimes check my buyer's bidding history when I am bored).
I had already received payment and had shipped the item before her ebay claim came in. I have been waiting for PayPal to hold those funds as well but no PayPal claim has been opened.
So I am wondering what is really going on here?
a. Are we seeing more dishonest buyers who have learned how to fraudulently abuse ebay and PayPal?
f. Are people pleasure shopping and then filing chargeback claims when the credit card bill comes in?
c. Were these buyers already heavily into debt and now find themselves with no credit since the mess last month that caused many credit card companies to lower credit limits?
d. Is there is full scale attack on ebay accoounts and the highjacked accounts are being used to purchase cheap pottery?

Just a new breed of scum trying to get get as much stuff off eB for free as they can.
The next DYI book to hit the web may be titled. "How to get stuff for free off eBay."

Just wondering, wouldn't they have had to have her pass words for both ebay and paypal in order to use her account to buy and pay?
Seems like that should still put the responsibility back on her. Ebay or paypal may not see it that way.

One thing I know for sure, Anthing I ship will be by the book. I check to see that the PayPal transaction is covered by Seller protection. If not, it will get declined and reinvoiced until the buyer makes the necessary adjustments.
Another way buyers can scam and burn is by submitting their shipping address with a small error. Then they send you an email asking you to correct the shipping address. No way, no how! I will no longer fix shipping address errors for the customer. If it comes in wrong I refund the payment and send them another invoice.
PayPal will use an incorrect address as an excuse to not cover you under the Seller Protection program.
ebabe, you know the buyer had to have know someone was using their accounts. The real irony is that the buyer had sent me 2 emails after the transaction to tell me how excited she was. These emails were sent through ebay and had intended to use them to get the buyer shutdown but eBay deleted the emails when they killed the listing. So I have my listing proceeds pluse ebay gave me a refund for the fees on the listing they pulled and it appears PayPal probably refunded her money under Buyer Protection.
How long will eBay/PayPal survive with this type of liability?
Of course the next step in ebay's evolving logic would be for eBay to NRU me because I have too many bad buyers, lol.

I think something is going squirrely at PayPal. A chargeback to my account was initiated for a small transaction that went very smoothly. I seriously doubt that the buyer requested it. We both left positive feedback. There was no action or proof requested. Paypal just said they were reviewing the case. I just checked to see if it was resolved - it was:
"We have completed our investigation. After reviewing the details of this case, we have determined that it is unlikely that we will be able to successfully dispute this chargeback. This matter has been resolved and no funds were debited from your account for this chargeback. We were charged a fee for processing this chargeback and have debited your account a Chargeback Settlement Fee."
The only thing I can think of is perhaps Paypal took out the funds twice from his account? I shipped to the Paypal-verified address and the buyer left positive fb after he received it.

They took a chargeback fee out of your account and you have a feedback showing the buyer received the item? That would seriously tick me off.
1. Before shipping the item, check the PayPal DETAILS (found on the transaction page) and verify that the transaction is showing as covered by Seller Protection.
2. Be sure you ship to the address on the PayPal transaction. If the buyer contacts you because they made a mistake in the shipping address or you cannot print a shipping label because of an address format problem, refund their payment and re-invoice them. Send them a separate email explaining why you refunded the payment and tell hem how they can correct the error. Make no excuses, accept no excuses and above all, do not be a nice guy and fix it for them unless you are willing to give them your item (plus shipping) for free.
PayPal will give no mercy to a seller who receives a chargeback if the seller has not followed the PayPal guidelines for Seller Protection.
3. If the transaction is showing as covered by Seller Protection, you do not have to worry if the address is showing as CONFIRMED. PayPal now accepts that responsibility as long as you ship to the address shown on the transaction.
Following PayPal's Seller Protection does not automatically protect you from chargebacks. Buyers can file a chargeback with PayPal or their credit card company at anytime. However, following the seller requirements set forth by PayPal will increase the likelihood you will win should there be a chargeback or dispute.

Here is a scenario;
I buy a product from you LtRay through eBay. I have now formed a "legal" contract with you to pay for this item and you will ship to the address I have listed in eBay. Reason being, that is where the contract took place. Well, I don't have and never use Paypal, so I have my sister, who has a paypal account, pay you for the item. By the way, we are close, so my sister has my name on the account also. You now have payment and need to ship the goods....do you ship them to my sister's address(paypal) or my address on eBay?
Please note you are probably handling several packages daily, what address are you most likely to send the item to?
This is the part of EBAY vs.(owning) PAYPAL that I disagree with. Even eBay's help sections and policies ALL assume that buyer will pay with Paypal and claims go through there. The original contract is through eBay and Paypal policies shouldn't come into play. eBay should have their SELLER - BUYER protection policies. Basically sick of paying "two companies" to perform one task.
Yeah, I know..."go elsewhere if you don't like it, etc."...

RH, you are correct, our contract would be initiated through ebay however, your payment method would still dictate my shipping decision regardless of your use of PayPal or not.
In Sept I set all of my listings and invoices to say "Your order will be shipped to the shipping address included with your PayPal payment. Please verify this address is correct."
This is also my ebay default for the "Seller's instructions" section so "our" ebay contract would have included this requirement.
If you paid with PayPal, I would only ship to the PayPal transaction address. IF you had asked to pay with cash, check, Goggle Checkout , etc I would gladly ship the order wherever you wanted it shipped to in the US but I would still be sure to have some sort of Delivery Confirmation.
If you paid with your sister's PayPal account and wanted it shipped to your address, I would send you/her instructions on how to show your sister how to add your address to her shipping address list in PayPal.

Confused...nah...I leave that for my cat.
Just a typical monday morning;
Got an A-Z claim on Amazon, buyers address did not "compute" with STAMPS.com. So you go through the extra bells and whistles to find what looks to be the right address. Turns out she ordered THREE of the same item from three DIFFERENT sellers. So, easy for her to just file the claims on all three. Verified the DC and it was delivered three weeks ago. Took the time to call her and she verified that the one she did get was mine(specially wrapped the inner contents). Turns out she had HER street address and her DAUGHTER's town & state(withih 6 miles of each other). So, I am waiting to see how Amazon will "decide" the outcome. I gave the buyer the information to cancel the claim, which may or may not get done.
ADD TO THAT;
eBay buyer's email this morning also;
I received the item and it is completely non-functional. Is this the nature of what you sell? Please provide immediate credit.
wording in auction;
"I have tried the telephone, does not seem to work, may need some repair. This piece is being sold AS IS, mainly for a fixer-upper project. "
response from buyer -- "Live and learn as they say."
So I probably will be dealing with -- _1_ on all DSRs.
IT IS NOT EVEN THURSDAY YET ---- (full/new moon)!!!!!!!!!
OH...I also sent my mortgage to Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr....but he hasn't responded yet either!!!
