I *think* I have the right person - I could be wrong. I have been known to be wrong before
Check out the current issue of the Metropolitan Home - Jan/Feb that is out now. I just got mine in the mail a few days ago. They have an article on page 64 about selling online and a lot of it deals with Mid Century Modern. 1stDibs.com made 400 million in 2008.

I think you are right - shagmidmod does deal in Mid Century Modern.
I get email notices at least weekly from 1stDibs and believe me - they don't need ebay!!
If you can find the same item on ebay for say $500 - it's sure to be $3000 on 1stDibs. I bet many of the sellers there buy right off of ebay too.

yes, that would be me. i just got our MH issue this week, and now that you mention it I haven't cracked it open yet. i'll check it out.
1st dibs is a collective of high end antique and MCM dealers. It is amazing how much money they ask for things. Many people think of it as a scheme, but it works for them. What they do is over-inflate asking prices by 10x what the realistic value is... then someone comes along and offers them 25% less than their asking price and they make a killing.
i am beginning to look at finding new sources for MCM. The biggest problem we have is that we don't do such high end merchandise as 1st Dibs... though we do have a few at any given time. locals here in Portland aren't going to cough up $8000 for an Eames Storage Unit on a regular basis. My biggest headache is shipping. It takes alot of time and effort just to get freight quotes. Everyone thinks things can be freighted for next to nothing.
