You know the problems I have been having with PayPal. Now I try to log into eBay and they are now asking for the exact same info. There is no way that I will ever give them that info. Go straight to hexx ebay and paypal. I would rather give you totally up before I would give you that info.

I try to log in and it goes straight to the give me all your info page. Don't pass go. Don't get $200 dollars.

Hello,

Can someone at eBay to verify they really do want this information. It sounds more like malware or something trying to phish your information from you.

The only number I have currently is for their silver powerseller support, 801-545-2806, but ask if they can get you in touch with someone that can verify this for you.

Regards,
Chris

Stone - are they asking for your pin number too? You really need to call somebody fast. Don't blame PayPal and EBay.

What protection are you running?

I have always used Nortons then as a back up or addition I use the FREE version of AD-AWARE (NOT AD-WARE). You can dowmload several of these at;

http://www.download.com/windows/

This site is a WELL TRUSTED site and they offer SEVERAL great programs...FREE!!

Just a suggestion...but definitely worth the time....

you probably won't take my word for it but here goes....

You have to do this one in IE http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Same here http://www.xblock.com/onlinescan.php

Run this and then check "save log file" use it below on the second link >

http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html

second linkhttp://hjt.networktechs.com/

MAKE SURE you check the BACK UP box in hijackthis in case you need to restore anything. Just read everything over very carefully. Anything that is RED in the analyzer will be safe to delete after you have ran the trojan scan and the xblock. Run those first! They will get rid of 97% of the bad stuff.

If that doesn't get it, you may want to think about doing a format. You really DO have something on your computer. Or on your - what do you call it? Server? Someone is on your line somewhere.

Enquiring minds need to know, Stone. Was your PIN number requested on the eBay page, or any Paypal page? If you were exaggerating, we'll gloss over this. If not, you've been hit.

It was asked for directly from ebay and from paypal.
I never used shortcuts or go to my favorites when going to either site. I always type in the url address.

I just tried as hwahwa suggested and sure enough, I get the same page asking for the account info including the PIN and social security #. There is no way this isn't a PayPal and eBay problem. I don't get that message for any other site that I go to and believe me, at work, I use more highly sensitive sites than eBay or PayPal.

I will try calling the ebay number and see if they can give me some light on the situtatoin.

Ok Stone - when I was in Oregon, I used my mother's computer. Whenever I tried to DO something in eBay (ie: revise listings), I got this new security id check. They called my cell phone and gave me a pin number by email so I could sign-in. Do you think that is the PIN they are looking for? (not bank card PIN)

Is it possible that you have a new Visa card? We just got ours, and it has a separate PIN # with it.

Is this what you are seeing Stone? This is from the "Identification Preference" link on the Account Information Column on the Profile Tab in PayPal. I couldn't find the same thing on eBay but assume since the accounts are linked that it does the same thing in both places:

If that is all it is and you haven't set up a Customer Service Pin Number, then you can use one of the other methods to verify your identity.

No. That's not it. It looks nothing like that. Your page is one that it takes a few clicks to get to. This one takes you directly to it when you try and log in.

I will put a couple of jpg's up after a bit.

Here is what the eBay page looks like. The PayPal site looks the same except for it has the PayPal logo.

Here is the URL it switches to.

That so called sign in page is so poorly written that a first grader wouldn't fall for it.

I love the use of the TRUSTe logo on the phony page!

A few things I read said you could get around the phony page simply by using Firefox.

I also read this solution (but won't get the trojan off the computer):

First, open your ie browser, click tools, located at the upper right near top of page, scroll down and click on internet options, find the tab saying security, click on the symbol restricted site, then click the button " site ", you will see a fill in window. Type the web / link address in this space exactly as you are reading it then click the button "add" close out that window and click ok, close ie window and re-open and type in your ebay web address, you should not see this re-direct again. Find the customer support number to ebay and report that site and they will trace that sites ip address and shut it down.
