Apples are too expensive. You can install Linux on your HP and you'll probably have better luck than with windows at no extra cost.
Tony.
In a world without walls or fences who needs Windows and Gates?

Hi Tony,
I am always several generations behind on software so here's the question. Would all my software, Coreldraw 9, Photoshop CS, Wordperfect 12, etc. work on lenex? I also use DVDshrink, Ripit4me and other freeware programs, would those work on Lenex?

Problem is bigger than Vista. HP has some serious BIOS issues that you will not learn about until you have a dead system on your hands.
Oh, and someone in their infinite wisdom has decided end-users do not need real diags. Read about the new SMART technology. Software now monitors drive performance and will tell you when there is a hardware problem so you can order a replacement part. Forget about just reformatting and logging bad blocks once your drive is flagged it is impossible to unflag it without some serious work arounds..
Between the Vista headaches and finding all the HP screw ups, I am just plain tired of it. I have invested enough time cleaning up problems with this pc over the last year to have bought 3 Apples.

throughhiker,
You can use certain versions of Photoshop on Linux using something called Wine, but I dont know if You would get full functionality. If you don't need something as advanced as PS you could use Gimp. As for the other stuff you would probably have to find an open source alternative. I recommend Linux Mint, everything works from the get go, unlike some others that need flash and java set up. If you download it and put the disc in your pc and reboot you can try it without installing it. Its not for everyone but I think its much easier to learn and use than Windows.
