I happened across this Seller who lists everything at $1000.00 and Best Offer. Seems to be working for them.
Their eBay Store is called:
'It'sNotREALLY$1000 JustMakeAnOffer'
Here's an Auction # 190134398743

Interesting,it has 2 offers which were declined.
Wonder why they think $1000 asking price gets people attention?
and what is the listing fee on $1000?
Why not $1 million,would that get more attention?Or $999,999.99

The listing fee is still only 35 cents. I think it's pretty clever.
Edited for an apostrophe.

pixiamom..that was my feeling too!
I looked at their Completed listings and they seem to be accepting reasonable offers.
They are, I am sure, receiving also many offers that they are either countering or declining but it's working well enough that they are maintaining Power Seller status.

I think anything buyers can use to get noticed is great. I wonder how long it will be before there are others doing the same.
One of their auction titles: Very Unique ANTIQUE Polychrome Electrolier Table LAMP
I do WISH people would not use Very Unique, it is either unique or it's not.

Here's why I think it's clever:
It will attract people who are searching for similar items - they will click through to see why it's worth $1,000. It will also attract people who browse by category, looking for high-end items - who might be irritated after they click through or might take a fancy to it and make an offer. They're taking advantage of the low listing fees for BIN items, yet they get an auction-type spin on it - they can accept the highest offer.

That's it exactly! They also have incorporated some attention-getting graphics on some of the listings with the pop can and big Stop signs.
How refreshing to see someone making lemonade out of all these big fat lemons we have been handed lately.
OT....We will be down your way at the end of this month, Pixiamom! Heading down to Lincoln City for two weeks then on to Florence for a week with the fourth week to meander there and back! Taking my metal detector down to the beach to see if I can make more money than I am on eBay!

Otteropp, I'll be in Lincoln City the last part of March during Spring Break. Will also be there between Palm Sunday and Easter with Neglus. Let me know when you'll be there, maybe we can hook up!

Hi Neglus,
The timing is perfect. We arrive in Lincoln City on April 5th and leave to go to Florence on the 19th!
We can have our very own eBay Live event!

It must be a new attention getting device. I am seeing more reserve auctions of the items we follow. I am sure this is due to the drop off in bidders. I recently bid on some photographs with a reserve that was not met. I then saw them relisted and sold for $1,000 with a "suggestion" of $300 as a best offer. Why not just a "buy it now" of $300? Guess they hoped to get a bidding war.

I made a lowball offer on one of their $1000 auction-$10.
They counteroffered $32 including USPS priority shipping,so?

I know there are others doing this as I saw one the other day.
I opened it to see why they thought it was so valuable. Got me!!!

Yes...that's the one.
I am sure they put a lot of thought into how to make it work. Good for them!
