I bought one pair of earrings. I needed them desperately to complete a customer order. Shipping was stated as $4.75 Priority Mail.

He shipped last Friday and it arrived today. Shipping was First Class and this idjit had packed the earrings in a 6 x 6 x 6 cardboard box. Total package weight: 5 ounces. Inside there was half a sheet of wadded up newspaper and in the bottom of the box were the earrings, rattling around loose.

Seller has 856 feedback, 100% positive. And apparently the luck of the Irish in order to make it this far unscathed.

I suspect he got his tail singed today.

It annoys the heck out of me that people use the Priority Mail tab when they know full well they intend to ship 1st class.

Someone started the rumor that First Class was the same delivery time as Priority but I can attest to First Class often being slower than snail mail. I have been waiting for a 3 oz 1st class package to arrive at its destination for the last 10 days!

The PO must have had a major snaffu last week somewhere in the South. All of my 1st class northen shipments arrived in 2 days and the southern shipments are just now popping to the surface. Grrrr!

I haven't negged him. Yet.

I asked for a partial shipping refund. Since he sent it First Class, I want a refund of the difference between a 2 ounce First Class parcel and $4.75 Priority Mail. Seems fair to me but I doubt he'll see it that way.

Some time ago First Class in most situations took about the same time as Priority Mail, or at worst a day longer. Now I'm not sure any more.

Look what I found when I logged into PayPal today:

Good grief! More chargebacks on the way and more complaints of where's my order the day after the sale.

1st class mail runs hot and cold. With less than 40% of buyers leaving feedback I usually check shipments for delivery status once or twice a week. The majority of 1 st class arrives in 2 or 3 days and then there are weeks like last week when orders to certain areas take 9 to 12 days. The latest hang ups from Panama City FL to Arlington TX and another to Tuscon. Normally a 2 day delivery, took 8. California orders mailed the same day arrived in 3 days.

Parcel post is worse.
Sometimes I see seller using USPS priority mail for a tiny little item because they are too cheap to buy shipping supply.

Um, he paid for 5 ounces but you want only to pay for 2 ounces? How many ounces do you ship for $4.00? I think a more reasonable refund would be the difference between the 5 ounces he paid and the $4.75 you paid since he said Priority Mail. It all depends on how bad he wants a neg.

pmelcher: I was fine with paying $4.75 for Priority Mail. I didn't get what I paid for, so I see no reason why I should subsidize this seller's poor choice of packaging. The earrings were rattling around loose inside the box. I'm just lucky they weren't damaged. I shipped them out to my customer the same day.

Um, he paid for 5 ounces but you want only to pay for 2 ounces?

Call it a stupidity tax.

Well, these sellers would have to learn about customer service if they want to continue selling on or off Ebay!
I recently bought some small items from an Ebay seller with perfect feedback.
She did not say whether she would ship USPS Priority or first class,I just assume from what she sold she would be using first class so she can keep some of the shipping fee I paid her, which I dont mind.
No,she used a box and slapped a USPS Priority label on it and a green DC slip,so shipping costs $4.80 plus 65 cents for DC.
Inside the box,the 3 items were loosely wrapped in paper towel and placed inside a frail old torn Walmart plastic bag!
The items were awful,so I emailed her and complained.
She said Paypal has a hold on her fund as she is new!?? She is not that new from her feedback?
So I filed a complaint with Paypal and it asks me to return the items.
I have returned the items and waiting for my refund, and thinking of negging her.
Someone has to wake up these sellers who give Ebay a bad name,USPS boxes are free and bubble wrap or just some tissue paper would be nice, not kitchen paper towel and walmart plastic bag?

hwahwa: Maybe her PayPal account is new.

I think some small sellers who previously only accepted money orders are having to grudgingly open PayPal accounts if they want to sell on the Bay.

Someone has to wake up these sellers who give Ebay a bad name,USPS boxes are free and bubble wrap or just some tissue paper would be nice, not kitchen paper towel and walmart plastic bag?

I suspect if eBay could figure out a way to penalize those who ship in used pizza boxes or bloodstained hospital drapes (actually happened), they would do so.
