I have a bunch of records, a large percentage 70's and 80's jazz. No Blue Note yet, but I'm hoping. Most are in NM condition. Clean sleeves, clean vinyl, looks like they were opened and played once. I don't a single thing about jazz music and rarely recognize a name.
I want to post them on ebay in singles and possibly small lots. I want to maximize sales, but also move them quickly without incurring alot of fees. I don't want to spend time researching them either. I have too much on my plate to mess with it, but I know there are some decent records. I started researching them and found a few sold for over $100, a few over $50, and a bunch in the $25-50 range.
I've looked at a few other record sellers that start theirs at $9-10 each. Should I just start them at $9.99 each and see where they go? Lower/Higher??? Any suggestions?
Lastly, how would you ship these? I've considered Priority and just using the large size shirt boxes flat. I've done that with good success in the past. Any inexpensive options?

Can't comment on shipping options as I've never dealt with records.
As far as starting price for listing on eBay, in this particular time period, you'll end up with a lot of $9.99 sales.
I have a sell thru of almost 100%, but few items in pottery and glass are bringing multiple bids. It's like pulling teeth to get anywhere near true value. (Whatever that may be today)

Take a couple box fulls to a store that deals in old records. They will pick out the ones they want to buy those are the ones you should take home and sell on eBay. I'm sure there is a site some place where you can plug in the title and get a value like you can do with books at ABE.com.
You have to listen to any that you want to sell. If the customer gets a record with some bad tracks they are going to be pizzed off enough to give you 100 negs!!!

I sold quite a few LPs a few years ago and used new, clean pizza boxes, padding the records themselves inside the box. No complaints. The pizza boxes cost somewhere between 30 and 50 cents. (I got the boxes for "large" pizzas.)

Not worried about competitors...you list an item at the lowest price, competition is not like ebay. NO DSRs..lowered searches..it is a FAIR playing field.
When listing your albums, Amazon offers you the lowest price (and up) as to what the album is selling for. NO RESEARCH, like on ebay.
As for fees...they get 15%...BUT that is AFTER the sale is final(free listings)...NONE of that 5¢ & 10¢ you to death system like on ebay.
As for shipping, I have sold numerous overseas, but be careful of the SET shipping fees Amazon has in place. Overseas can kill the profits. Some sellers actually list albums TWICE...one price for international and one for "local". A little added work, but sales are there.

I just ordered a price guide. I figure if I find others in the future at least I'll have a book to give me some idea of what is collectible. I already have a few other record price guides, might as well have one for jazz albums.
As for packing, I have used boxes that were just flat, and mailed them in those. That was for the occassional record. It has worked without problem, but I would prefer something a bit better.
