I just received this message from ebay:

"Your account has been placed on hold due to non-payment. Please make a one-time payment for US $86.14 today to prevent your account from being further restricted."

I just checked my account and everything is current. I haven't even received an invoice yet for July, and now my account is on hold??? In 9 years selling on ebay I have never seen anything like this.

I was going to pay what I owed for the last invoice, but as soon as I attempted to I get this message,

"Under Payment
Your amount now due is greater than the payment amount you have entered. You may continue with this payment amount, however it will not remove the restrictions placed on your account. Please confirm your payment amount and click Continue."

So far for the month of August I have accrued just over $16 in listing fees. I owe ebay a total of $104.10.

I attempted to use ebay live chat, but nobody is has come on to chat with me in over 10 minutes. Unreal!

What is up with that???

I am betting this is spam, I know you know better than to click the link. Shame on live chat for not answering you promptly!

I get those once in awhile and haven't bought or sold anything on eBay in a year or so. I use different email addy's for different things. Stange the one tied to my eBay account never "sends" me those messages.

Did you click on the link in the email to pay and then got the response that the amount you owe is greater than the payment? If so, I would say you have been phished.

My first thought when I saw the email was SPAM... but I went to ebay and signed on. It is most definately NOT spam.

I tried Live Chat again, and nothing. I called last night and spent 20 minutes on hold without contacting anyone at ebay.

I hate email with them, because they send you some stupid obscure message that rarely pertains to the problem, acting as if that will solve the problem.

Grrr... Now Paypal's shipping system is down. I just love it when everything goes wrong.

Last month, it seems everything went right, so I guess it just evens out. lol.

EBay really wants you to put down a CC # or gain access to your bank acct to pay your fees. I seem to remember this coming up before (selling restrictions until invoice paid).

I just updated my CC # on July 30th. I double checked it and it is fine.

I am on the phone right now with ebay. The guy who is "helping" isn't much help. All he did was place me on hold for 5 minutes, come back and tell me what my July balance is. Well, duh!

I explained to him that my account was placed on restricted status before I received my July invoice, and before eBay attempted to bill my account. Yet, all he did was state the obvious!

Now I get transferred to billing. The first thing they ask me is if I am paying my bill right now. No, I am not paying my bill right now b/c I don't know what is going on with my account. If the status is incorrect, how do I know I am being invoiced properly???

She tells me that I am past due for my July invoice. Don't they know their own protocol??? I get an invoice on the 4th, then eBay automatically deducts it from my account a few days later. This is how it happens every single month... until now.

So, let's recap:

Last night I tried Live Chat twice... no luck.

Last night I called and was on hold for 20 minutes... no luck.

This morning I called and was disconnected from the first CSR.

I tried Live Chat twice... no luck.

I call back and get a CSR who only repeated what my account shows.

I get transferred to billing, and they ask me to pay my bill. I explain the problem, get put on hold and wait for 15 minutes... nobody returns.

I call back again, and immediately get disconnected.

I call back again, and ask for a supervisor. They want to know why I am calling. I have already repeated this twice, and I plan NOT to do it with a CSR and then to a supervisor.

How does anyone get anything resolved with them???

Maybe it is time to slow down your eBay selling and try other alternatives. Just a thought.

Finally get a supervisor. He has no idea why this happened, but he can tell me that I also was charged a late fee of 19 cents for not paying my July invoice on time. UNREAL!!!

He first wanted me to pay my july and august fees, and then credit the august fees back to my account. I told him I wasn't paying that, so he credited August. I still had to pay July today so it would remove the restricted status from my account. Why??? I still don't know.

I have spent almost 3 hours dealing with this.

Like I said . . . eBay is run by fresh out of college, no life experience, children in suits! At least they can't remove my post from here for stating the obvious.

My first thought was if it's spam - that's really scary as they know your account balance.

Ditto what Cheryl said.

Hello,

That is unfortunately one of the oldest eBay gremlins still out there floating around. It used to come up all the time, but now I only run into it maybe once or twice all year. Usually the customer is trying to post from Vendio and getting this message and eBay just tells them were at fault - so we walk the user through trying to post something from eBay until they prompt them with this same message to see the real source.

One part of their system will not show anything due, it's just a glitch with the actual listing process and it's checking to verify the balance is paid and not past due.

Sorry to hear that you had to deal with it, I think another unfortunately side effect is the somewhat heavy CSR turnaround at eBay where new reps don't remember this long standing bug in their system from years past.

Regards,
Chris

They finally fixed it, but to throw salt on my wounds, the supervisor said, "it looks like we also charged you a late fee of 19 cents."

I couldn't help but laugh out of frustration as he credited it back...

I think this problem may be related to changing your credit card information. I updated it on July 30th, and then had this problem. The thing is that I didn't actually change the CC info, as much as re-entered the same info. Last month there was a problem with charging my Debit Card (which is my Paypal debit card). I think PP's system was down when they attempted the payment. I had this happen a few times last month when I tried to use my debit card and it wouldn't go through though there was enough money in the account.
