2 Piece Wool Suit listed at $39.99, Buy It Now $49.99.

Shipping quote averages about $12.00.

Bidder emails me wanting to know if Buy It Now includes free shipping.

Let's see...

$49.99 BIN
-$12.00 Shipping
$37.99 Final Price

Duh!

I had someone offer me $500 for a pair of chairs.
I counter offered $650. She accepted the offer then wrote "I assume $650 includes shipping"
Sure, why no? It was going to cost about $260 to ship them. I would have been better off to take her 1st offer.
I just said that I didn't offer free shipping and did she want to cancel the transaction. She didn't. It all worked out but I was amazed that she even said that.

Here's one from yesterday:

"Hi: Like the ring -don't like the leaf side can that be change to look like other side.(more masculine) Also size to 7.75. Thanks "

Uh, no, I don't think so. Well, okay, *technically* I suppose the design could be altered and the ring sized to fit your precious finger but that would add about $100 to the price of the ring. Still interested?

I don't know, this just annoys me. It's like going into Best Buy and taking a DVD up to the counter. "Hello, I know this movie has Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd in it, but Ashley Judd really sucks, so could you delete all her scenes? Then I'll buy it. Thanks."

Received this question before the auction ended, but I didn't respond till the auction was over.

The SS Ring was 7.99 Shipping was 3.00

Question to me
that seems a little steep for a lite item as this. and frankly its keeping me from bidding.i ship a few small things coins and the like so i kind of have a small idea of postage on a 61/2 size ring about 50 cents.i know its only 2.50 but times are tough on everybody. sorry if this made you angry that truly was not my intintion i really want to buy the ring.

my ans to her
How someone can ship a jewelry item for 50 cents is something I don't understand. First off I use a 4 x 4 x 4 box with the ring wrapped in a bubble bag and tissue rolled around it. Plus the cost of shipping a first class for 3 oz which is what it will weight is 1.75, with tracking. then we have 1.25 left which covers my paypal fee which I am charged when you make your payment. then my listing fees and my selling fees to ebay, and I didn't even consider the cost of my NEW box, New Bubble bag and tissue and shipping lable.
If you feel 3.00 is more then You can spend then it's better you don't bid because not only you have problems, we all do, so it would be nice if you tried seeing it from a sellers point of view.

Plus I never would ship jewelry in an envelope that you would use for a business letter, it would bulge out of shape since the ring is so wide and the envelope would rip at the Post Office and you would loose the ring and then blame me for bad packing and then make a claim with paypal that you never received the ring.

I just hope I never buy from someone who does not pack and protect my item so it arrives to me safely because that is the reason you buy an item ...because you want the item not an empty package. You didn't make me angry you just made me wounder why you would want your item unprotected in shipping.

It has certainly been the week for such annoyingly ignorant inquires.

My favorite ASQ this week wasn't from an ignorant buyer - "My Dad owned this restaurant! I worked there as a kid! I can't believe I found a postcard of it". My answer: "Glad you found it, it would have helped if your dad had mentioned that it was in Minnesota in the caption - I had a heck of a time figuring out where it was located".

LOL!

We have our retail store in the Hollywood District of Portland. We sell vintage furniture, decor, housewares, etc. Mostly 1950's thru 70's. Here are the most common stupid comments/questions we get:

- "This reminds me of my parents (or grandparents house)." I've been tempted to say, "you know you are the first person to ever say that!"

- "I walk by here every day and have never seen you... how long have you been here?" Answer: 4 years.

- "Where do you get your stuff?" As if we would reveal our trade secrets... which is basically the same place anyone else would get their stuff - garage sales, estate sales, auctions, thrift stores, other antique stores, advertising in the paper and phone book, etc. Our job is to search for this stuff while they sit in a cubicle at Nike or Intel.

- My favorite dumb question is... "Is this stuff new?" Which in all honestly, I take as a compliment because it means our furniture looks clean and our store doesn't smell like some musty junk store.
