We got this tool in a box of things from a friend in their 90's. Apparently, this belonged to their grandmother, but they don't know what it is.
It's 6 1/2" long, with a painted wooden handle and what I assume is a guard. The blade is not sharp, and slightly serated at the end. There is a name Alfred Richard on the blade. I can find nothing about this at all.

Wow photo, that is exactly what it is, thank you so much. I don't know if it is worth listing, when the new one is less than $5. We puzzled over what it could possibly be, we don't see many oysters in mid Canada.

Have you googled the name on the blade? It might be significant. . . .

I had guessed a sewing tool, but I don't like oysters unless they're fried. I did a quick google and nothing came up with the name, it's too common.
