I just finished reading the latest issue of DMNews. This article regarding eBay and its email was amusing to read, especially after the recent thread regarding eBay email.
I found this quote most interesting -
"eBay Wins e-mail Bid"
'... "We're very focused on e-mail deliverability primarily because, why send a message if it doesn't get into the inbox,” says Nicole Birdsall, group product manager, communications at eBay. “We want to make sure that we are a good citizen and sending relevant e-mails and getting important messages through to our customers who are expecting them.” ...'

eBay sends about 25 billion e-mails per year and has a 98 to 99% deliverability rate.
Too bad eBay hasn't figured out how to get those messages actually read.
I have sent many replies and messages to bidders who claim to not receive them. Obviously, bidders not receiving those messages means they were either 1) not forwarded to the bidders email address. 2) the bidder didn't read their ebay messages on their account. Either way, this translates to poor communication DSRs for sellers who have no control over what eBay forwards and what bidders read.
