This is an old tip but bears repeating. I learned from wise posters here that sellers should mark easily-switched items before sending them out. Based on that advice, I bought a marking pen and black light. I've had a few dastardly buyers e-mail that the item they received was not in the condition I described. When I told them they could send it back, I would offer full refund BUT that I had marked the item and would verify that it was the same one I sent. To date, this has happened about 6 times (last time about 2 weeks ago) and NO ONE has EVER returned the item! So, if you're selling good things that can be easily switched for crummy things, mark the items before shipping. I'm still grateful to the person who suggested this several years ago.

I don't mark the items, but I tell any potential scammers that I did and that works just as well.

I've used that to call a few bluffs as well. It has worked well.

Most of the time I think bidders are just trying to get a refund without shipping it back.

About a month ago I shipped a clock to a buyer through our website. I shipped the wrong item. I still require they return the item before I ship another. The buyer wanted me to send the correct one first and wanted to know why I had that policy. I sent them a prepaid return label via email, so all they had to do was print and tape it to the box. It took them almost a month to get around to it. A perfect example why I don't replace anything until it has been returned.

Nobody walks into a department store and asks for a replacement for a broken item without bringing the item in. I'm not sure why buyers think there should be different rules to that. To me it's a no brainer.

But Ebay is not a dept store and Ebay sellers are not professional retailers .
There are Ebay sellers who would not ship a replacement or just ship something like a box of rocks!
There is a guy who claimed he shipped a 42 inches TV set and have a DC to prove it,he posted his complaint on paypalsuck.com!

I switch items before I send them...thus breaking the cycle.
