I can find lots of information on the internet for maker's of silver jewelry, but nothing for gold. Does anyone have a source for these marks? I am pretty certain it is American as it is stamped 14k.

What does the mark look like?

And it doesn't have to be American to be stamped 14k. Sadly, it doesn't even have to be real gold. Only way to know for sure is to test it.

Good to hear from you, Fluff. Boy, your site gets better & better! Makes me wish I hadn't let my pierced ears grow back, years ago.

You can re-pierce them like my mother-in-law in England did....she used to pierce her friends ears for them by using a peeled potato held behind the ear and a red hot darning needle to pierce through.

When I was going to marry her son she told me she could do mine!!!! I ran as fast as I could in the opposite direction as I am allergic to pain!

Mine were pierced with a frozen hotdog behind the lobe at the sorority, pretty sure I was likkered up at the time!

thats the way my school mates did mine but not with a red hot needle. A little rubbing alcohol will sterilize just fine.

I let mine grow back years ago, too. I can't even wear the earrings I sell. You guys are making me cringe with your descriptions of piercing.

My mom had a pair of pearlized button earrings (clips) I admired when I was growing up. I found an identical pair in an antique store. I think the pearl coating on both hers and mine is flaking, but for a while it was nice to play dress-up.

Jewelry store in Hong Kong used to do it with slices of ginger and a needle FREE,if you buy a pair of pearl earrings from them.
Instead of rubbing alcohol, they rub a piece of ginger against your earlobe!

My friend did mine with a syringe and a carrot behind the ear. The problem was, just as she got the needle in, our 2 year old daughters started fighting, so she rushed off to intervene while I sat there with a needle hanging out of my ear!

I have had to have them re-done 3 times since then, it seems that some people's just close over.

True story. My first job out of college was as an office manager with an insurance company. We had an auditor from the Boston home office come out every 6 months. On my first visit with her, she kept complaining about about her P.S.D.S. I was afraid it was an insurance acronym I wasn't familiar with. I finally had to admit I had no idea what she was talking about. She looked at me as if I was an idiot and finally spelled it out: pierced ears.

Ice cube and rubbing alcohol here. But I would only let my roommate do one ear so I had to purchase the earrings that pierced your ears over a couple of weeks to finish the job.

Fluffy - you should check some craft stores in your area for a paint called New Pearly Dew. You can use it to redo the pearl finish. I used it all the time in my old crafting days and had a friend that used it to redo old Miriam Haskell jewelry.

If they make gold ,they probably make silver as well.Look under silversmith and their marks.
American Silversmiths and their marks by Ensko is a good reference book.
Foreign maakers make 14k gold jewelry -Italians,Asians etc
