The handle of a large pitcher has a dog handle. Can you tell if it's a greyhound, a whippet or something else? Does it matter do you think? Thanks for any opinions...

BTW, I think the face looks more like a duck.

Based on the criteria listed above, I vote that it's a Greyhound.

Maybe the the dog "got together" with a duck? Hard to tell but I think I'm leaning more towards a whippet...the dog on the handle has a longer and leaner body...then again, he's stretched out on the side of the pitcher...may just say "grayhound?/whippet?" and let bidders make their own judgements. Thanks...

Have you ever seen a duck with ears?? I vote whippet, although they really just look like a small version of a greyhound to me, so it could be either.

why not put both? seems like the most obvious way to hit both markets. you can clarify in the listing that you are not an expert in greyhounds/whippets and you are unsure which it is.

Check out this auction on eBay 110578119272. Looks like your pitcher is based on this Bennington piece.

Looks like "hound handle" is the right name.

Haha! Well someone called it a DUCK! I never was much good with sayings - isn't: "What does that have to do with the price of chickens?" in common usage and appropriate when someone makes a point so afar afield from the subject of a discussion or did I make that up?

The whippet is known as the cheetah of the dog world,I wonder if the Italian greyhound can run just as fast?
they are both beautiful dogs!

Hwahwa you are so right they are gorgeous dogs indeed!
So funny Neglus, in England I grew up hearing 'What does that have to do with the price of tea in China"? Yes, it was used in the same context as your poor old beaten up chicken!

blueyes29... I agree with you. This Board is the only one I post on as I watch others get torn to shreds on Boards and I too love the sense of humour here. We rarely take offense and I wish we could all get together for a good laugh in person.
So far my DH and I have met Pixiamom and her Mom and almost met Neglus but she was not able to come at the last moment.
Then this year Pixiamom and DH & I went and found Shag at his shop in Portland.
We thought that everyone was lot of fun but it seems that now Shag knows that we know where to find him....he moved his shop!
Not to worry Shag, we will play Detective and find you again!
Sorry I have totally de-railed this thread, I guess I am just in a chatty mood and ready to have some fun!

otteropp - I had to call my mother to make sure - she verifies that it was a saying in our family at least. I can still hear my dad saying that. Neither one of us knows if anyone else says it! LOL
I enjoy this board too and I almost spewed coffee all over my monitor when Neva told hwahwa to lay off the sake! So sorry we didn't get to meet - maybe next year.
Oops! My daughter is getting married at the end of March next year - not sure I will make it to Oregon in April after all.

It's supposed to be a greyhound. The depth of chest and length of neck are way off for a whippet..HOWEVER...it's not exactly a perfect representation (rather hideous, especially the head) and I'd probably list it with both greyhound and whippet in the title and maybe throw "sighthound" into the description, just to cover all the bases.
And no, Italian greyhounds don't run as fast as either whippets (never heard them referred to as "cheetahs of the dog world", considering that they're not the fastest-running dog breed) or greyhounds, even when ground speed is adjusted for the size of the dog.

Looks like a whippet, or a cross between a greyhound and a whippet.
