I had a package returned by USPS. It was returned because it was not picked up.
NYC - USPS says

Notice Left, August 16, 2010,
Arrival at Post Office, August 16, 2010, 6:45 am, BRONX, NY



Anyway, I got it back. I paid USPS Priority plus I paid for insurance.
I have heard nothing from the buyer.
Do I refund the full payment and loose the cost of mailing and eBay fees for selling?

Did you require a signature? If not, why didn't USPS just leave it?

I would wait to hear from the buyer. They may still want it and pay for redelivery.

some household do not want packages left unattended,some live in apt or mail box not big enough to hold the package.
You should contact buyer again,or call him.

next time check your delivery conformation and I will state notice left, email the buyer that the item is at the post office.
Done this several times and it worked for me

Some apt complex has an office which will receive mail for the tenants,but after 9/11,the tenant has to provide a list of shippers to the office so they will accept packages from those shippers on the list.
shippers are usually vendors aka company,not individuals.
Some apt complex has doorman ,they will just hold your package in a closet until you come home,but then some complex do not have doorman or reception desk,and the janitor is not going to accept any packages for the tenants.
I would not refund his money until I hear from him.

I wouldn't refund until you receive contact from the buyer... however, you should initiate contact regarding this matter. It is good for your DSRs/feedback if you look pro-active in matters like this. Buyers (most) appreciate the extra steps by a seller to assist in this problem.

One suggestion... Don't offer a refund, otherwise they make take it and expect shipping costs reimbursed too.

There are ways for the item to be shipped back to the buyer without any cost to either of you if you go to the post office counter.

There is always the possibility that USPS attempted to deliver it to a wrong address and the buyer was unaware it arrived.

Also, I notice that the delivery attempt states August 16. My understanding is that a post office will attempt delivery 3 times and leave 3 notices over a 21 day period, but I can't find anything to confirm that period. Based on the August 16 date and the fact that you are posting this on September 5... the days simply don't add up. If you received the package on September 4 (no service on Sundays) you are looking at 19 days between the only attempt shown and the Post Office returning it to you.

After you receive contact from the buyer, I would take it to the counter and tell the clerk that you show only one attempt and it was returned in such a short period of time. They should reship it for free.

Also, just because it says a notice was left, does not mean that the buyer received it. Often these notices get overlooked by the buyers, or get forgotten...like messages taken by others in your family.

I have often heard from customers who claim no notice was left.

Oh , she filed a not received claim today with Paypal-the package was delivered back to me Saturday Sept 4th.


I sent the buyer a full refund.
and am moving on.
Not once has the buyer ever contacted me.

Of course, I should have hand delivered.

Yep. What bothers me most is that eBay ties your hands as the seller. You have no choice in the matter. I would consider communicating with her regarding the package to preempt negative feedback or low DSRs. I would send her an explanation what happened and provide all documentation for her to look up. At that point you have given her all the facts to support what happened.

I wouldn't doubt by what you state that this is buyers remorse. She ignored the package b/c she decided she didn't want it or didn't want to go through the hassle of standing in line at the PO to get it. Her filing today also leads me to believe she was watching it to see when it was returned to you in order to file her claim.

I think to be a retailer,we have to eat crows and swallow some lumps,I remember in the old days we will keep asking the sales clerk to show us this and show us that and dont buy a thing and the poor clerk was in tears.
We have to tell ourselves life as a cyber retailer is not a bowl of cherries or rose garden,if it gets too difficult,we have to review our own business plan and decide either to quit offering certain items or service or make some improvements.
Not everyone is born to be the next Neiman Marcus or Sam ,gosh,I have been selling for over 10 years now and I am still a one person show.
Making money is never easy,go to work for someone else and the boss does not like you or you dont like your job but you hang in there for the money.
Same principle,dont let the small stuff bother you,whether it is a used eraser or Paypal dispute,not everyone loves us or our merchandise.
As long as we are making a decent profit,hang in there,take the good,the bad and the ugly.
The other day I spoke to someone I know,the last time I saw him was Jan,2009 and how things have changed!
He is a diabetic,his kidneys function 7%,he gets up 3 times each week at dawn and drive himself to the kidney dialysis center,then he goes to work as a customer service specialist answering phone calls when folks have problem getting on internet .
He came home and he is very tired,the kidney machine cannot filter potassium ,so no potassium for him in his diet and he is tired and cant wait to go to bed.
He could collect SS disability but he wants to work past 65 so he can work and make up to 40k and get his full SS check.
He has to work,he needs the money to pay rent,food and gas in his car and medical bills/
He has had several minor heart attacks,so how long would this person be alive?
We are lucky,all we do is to sit infront of the PC and list items and #*!@ and moan to each other how unfairly we have been treated.
Go take a walk,go watch a stupid movie or raid the fridge.

Shag.
We dont have to stand in line to get our package,we can have it redelivered,you can do this online if you have the number.
I have some packages returned to me because the buyer has moved and left no forwarding address and they never contact me or file complaint with Paypal.
May be they lost their home or their job!
