How has your eBay sales been this holiday, and this year?

I am considering on restarting an eBay store for a category that is not doing well at my main store. Should be about 500 items.

I'll still maintain the main store - just add the failing category to an eBay store, so that it appears on eBay, and at my main store.

Your comments would be appreciated.

My sales have been steady. I shall never become a millionaire so thank goodness it is only a hobby for us.
We did have to change our focus totally on what we were selling. We had always sold fine china, silver and antique 'smalls'. The market gradually dried up on those items.
Now we are selling the 1000's of Souvenir spoons that I have had tucked away as well as some postcards and other bits & pieces as I unpack them from our storage.
I use Markdown Manager a lot and rotate it on various items and it works well.
We run around 500 items in our Store.

On our other ID we do not have a store and use up the 100 'Free Listings' each month and have found a niche there too and have been experiencing a high sell-through. Have only been doing that for about 3 months so no long term stats but we are pleasantly surprised.

We do not list much over $25.00 on any item so many of our Buyers purchase multiple lots.

Don't know if that helps but just our experience this year.

I've done pretty good this month but I don't really sell much of anything that would be used as a gift for Christmas.
My furniture is still selling well and my jewelry does OK. Most of my income is from the furniture. All in all I've had a pretty good year.

Here is what I found on Ebay seller Central-

Talk about a mixed bag. Here's the first sentence in an article on Auctionbytes:

eBay CEO John Donahoe believes the 2010 holiday season is shaping up as "cautiously enthusiastic," according to a report from a Wall Street analyst.

It seems to me that cautious and enthusiastic are rather opposite in meaning.

My sales have been good. Seasonal items have done quite well. I have been having sales, but I need to move inventory. Everyone wants a bargain!!

PS: the second ID I started with only auction and no store is not doing well at all. Even though I start identical items at a lower price point than in my store, no sales!! Sell through is about 25%. Not good, but listings are free, so it is only costing me my time.

I only run auctions, but my sell thru rate has been the best ever. I guess it depends on what you're offering.

#1 issue I have seen on eBay while searching for those gift items is that you can get a better deal buying from amazon or other major retailer vs. on eBay. I have used eBay several times to see what the item is i am searching for. We bought a doll for the child of the house and it was $15 at Target, $18-40 on Amazon, and eBay was $25 on up. Same for several items I have bought recently.

I bought a brand new Motorola Cable Router (Comcast rate hike makes a rental $7 a month...ouch). I saw it at Radio Shack $99, eBay $90-140, amazon $77.

I chose to buy a faster one so we can stream movies on Netflix. Less than a year and it pays itself. We've had our current Motorola rental for over 5 years now and have given Comcast about $340 for that rental. With the economy I have really began to scrutinize all of the add-ons like rental equipment on our cable bill. We just shaved off $80 in fees a month from them by threatening to leave. We have basic cable, HBO, and internet. Canceled HBO, negotiated the rates for a year, and bought a modem.

I have broadband with Comcast and there has been 3 outages last month,I asked for a refund and got it -8 dollars!
I rented my cable modem from them,5 dollars a month.
Ebay merchandise could be more expensive since the Ebay sellers are small stores versus the Walmart,Target which get volume discount .

The free listing for Dec gave me the incentive to list some stuff from one of my collections it has been selling very well.

Traffic and sales are up vs last year. Sales the week between Christmas and New Years have always been good so I have my toes crossed. Hope that '11 is a good year.

Actually, the auction ID had only a 17% sell through rate, lower prices, identical items to my store items, mostly high quality seasonal items at 50-75% below retail.

Doing O.K. but got lucky and got a nice bunch of things to sell at the last live auction I attended. Was sort of slow before then.

Merrie.
Xmas shopping-Ebay must have tweaked their search engine in favor of fixed price and BIN items.
I have one store ID and 3 auction IDS,the store outsells all three auctions combined !
My store has sold 596 items since March 14.2010 .

I agree hwahwa, the auctions on my one ID have been dismal. Hits here and there, but mostly no sales. 17% to be exact according to my last sales report. Oh well, I am done listing auctions until after Christmas. My store will stay open and I will ship up until 12/23 with no guarantees for in time delivery.

Like I said the auctions were free to list and the FVFs are less than store, so....

Half.com will be sending 1099 FORM

Best I have done in years. 80% sell thru rate on my auctions and many with final prices way above what I was expecting.
